Costa Introduces Resolution Calling for Induction of Coach Tom Flores Into the Pro Football Hall of Fame

January 14, 2021

(FRESNO) - Congressman Jim Costa (CA-16) released the following statement after introducing a resolution recognizing Fresno native Tom Flores for his achievements in professional football and calls for his induction to the Pro Football Hall of Fame:

"In January and February American football fans look with great anticipation to the Super Bowl. Super Bowl week is also a time when we honor the impacts of some of the game's greatest contributors through inducting them into the Hall of Fame. With the selection ceremony for the Class of 2021 right around the corner, I can think of no better time to call for recognition of Tom Flores' accomplishments on the gridiron. Coach Flores is one of only two people in history – and first Latino - to win multiple Super Bowls as a player, assistant coach, and head coach. He has done more than enough to be deserving of this honor. I'm hopeful that next month the Selection Committee will finally anoint Coach Flores in his rightful place in football history."

Flores is being considered for induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio for the third time. However, this is the first time he has been considered as the sole Finalist in the new Class of 2021 Coaches Category.

Flores, who attended high school in Sanger, California, has also made significant contributions off the football field since leaving the NFL. He has used his influence to raise nearly $2 million dollars to support local school districts' science, art, and athletics programs through The Tom Flores Foundation.
