$16 Million for Greater Hartford Mobility Study Passes House

July 1, 2021

Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) voted for the INVEST in America Act, which passed the House. The Act included $16 million for the Greater Hartford Mobility Study, which Larson requested as a Community Funding Project.

"For generations the Hartford region has been adversely impacted by a series of grave transportation planning oversights committed during the last century. The Greater Hartford Mobility Study will create a contemporary Transportation Master Plan that will energize the region's future and fulfill the vision that advocates have promoted for years. The capital region needs a 100-year plan that reconnects Hartford's North End with all of the neighborhoods within the city, recaptures the riverfront, expands multi-modal transportation, reduces the environmental impact of thousands of stalled vehicles, and rids the city of the congestion from the I-84/I-91 interchange. This $16 million Community Funding Project will allow the state to complete the design-build study and begin work on an important infrastructure element that will drive the Hartford region's future," said Larson.

Rep. Larson has been a longstanding proponent of dramatically reshaping the I-84/I-91 interchange. Recently, he has worked with the Hartford 400 group on their proposal that would recapture our riverfront in Hartford and East Hartford, reconnect the North End of Hartford to the rest of the city, expand intermodal transportation, and reclaim valuable land in East Hartford.
