Larson Announces Funding for Local Gun Violence Prevention and Support Groups

Funding is Included in FY2022 House Appropriations Package for Hartford Communities That Care and Mothers United Against Violence

Hartford, CT - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) announced that his Community Funding Project Requests for Hartford Communities That Care and Mothers United Against Violence were included in the FY2022 House Appropriations bills. $630,000 was included for Hartford Communities That Care and $300,000 was included for Mothers United Against Violence. Hartford Communities That Care will use the funding for their Hartford Care Response Team and Violence Prevention Enhancement. Mothers United Against Violence will use their funding for their Victim Impact Project to provide direct support to victims of gun violence.

"Hartford Communities That Care and Mothers United Against Violence are on the frontlines of the battle against gun violence every single day. This funding will help prevent violence in the Hartford region and support victims and the families of victims of gun violence. I thank Andrew Woods, the entire Hartford Communities That Care team, Rev. Henry Brown, Deborah Davis, Henrietta Beckman, and all of the Mothers United Against Violence for the work that they do," said Larson.

"Community Based Organizations have for years have strung together short-term solutions to build the bench, train, strengthen and enhance Violence Prevention Professionals. Now with the leadership of Congressman John Larson, we are taking on this challenge of sustainable solutions for the long-term," said Andrew Woods, Executive Director, Hartford Communities That Care.

"Mothers United Against Violence understands the importance and the significance of this allocation of dollars to our underserved population in the Hartford area as we have been on the front line as first responders for over 18 years making every effort to help provide services to an already traumatized community specifically as it relates to the justice system," said Henrietta Beckman, President , Rev. Henry Brown, co-founder, and Deborah Davis, Program & Development Director.
