Congresswoman Kat Cammack Issues Statement On H.R. 3967, The "Honoring Our Pact Act"

July 18, 2022

WASHINGTON, D.C.ā€” Congresswoman Kat Cammck issued the following statement on her vote in favor of H.R. 3967, the "Honoring Our Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics (PACT) Act," which seeks to improve health care and benefits for veterans exposed to toxic substances.

"Last week, I was proud to support the passage of the PACT Act which will significantly expand health care and disability benefits for millions of veterans," Congresswoman Cammack said.

"This legislation accomplishes two important goals: first, it doubles eligibility for VA care for veterans serving near burn puts from 5 to 10 years after their discharge. Second, it directs the VA to give veterans their disability payments without having to prove that the illness was a result of their service. Previously, more than 70% of disability claims related to burn pit exposure were denied by the VA due to lack of evidence, a setback that has hindered millions of veterans from obtaining the care they require for their injuries. Representing a district with a plentiful veteran population, Iā€™m eager to see the way this legislation will correct these errors within the VA to serve more of our veterans who our country is forever indebted to after risking their lives to defend and protect our freedoms."
