JEFFRIES LEADS CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATION TO GHANA AND ISRAEL

April 20, 2023

WASHINGTON, DC – Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries is leading a Congressional delegation to Ghana and Israel, his first CODEL as Democratic Leader.

“Today, our Congressional delegation will travel to Ghana, one of America’s closest allies in West Africa. There, we will hold high-level meetings to discuss how we can further advance our shared interests and reaffirm the strong partnership between our two countries, building on the successful visit to the nation by Vice President Kamala Harris. Our delegation will also have the opportunity to visit a number of Ghanaian sites related to the transatlantic slave trade, recognizing the inextricable and painful history that binds the people of our countries together.

The delegation will then travel to Israel where we will commemorate the occasion of its 75th Anniversary and have the honor of participating in the recognition of Yom HaZikaron, Israel’s Memorial Day. While in Israel, we will meet with a number of stakeholders about Israel’s unique challenges within the region and discuss our efforts to maintain and strengthen the special relationship between our nations.

I am honored to lead this experienced delegation, which includes several Members of relevant committees and subcommittees related to the focus of our engagements in these two countries. We are looking forward to an informative and productive trip.”
