Hoyer, Brown Applaud $4 Million in Funding for Mental Health Services in Prince George's County Schools

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Congressmen Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) and Anthony G. Brown (MD-04) applauded the inclusion of $4 million in funding for the Prince George's County Department of Health to construct a pediatric telehealth network in 100 Prince George's County public schools and provide mental health services to students. The funding passed out of the full House Appropriations Committee last week after being approved by the Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies Subcommittee and was included in Fiscal Year 2022 funding legislation.

"The success of Prince George's students depends on having the adequate resources to meet their needs, especially after students have grappled with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on their learning," said the lawmakers. "We fought hard to secure this funding to develop a comprehensive telehealth network for Prince George's County students as they return back to the classroom this Fall. We will continue to be advocates for the tools that allow our students to excel both in and out of the classroom."

The legislation now goes to the House Floor for final passage. Funding for this project was requested by Congressman Hoyer and Brown through the House Committee on Appropriations' Community Project Funding process. Each Member is limited to no more than 10 Community Project Funding requests. Combined earmarks are capped at 1% of all discretionary spending.
