Dear Neighbor:

Did you hear the good news? President Biden is sending free COVID-19 tests to families across the country. Every household in the U.S. is eligible to receive four free at-home rapid COVID-19 tests, and it only takes a moment to sign up to receive yours.

These tests are totally free—you do not need to enter any payment or insurance information to place an order. Funding for this program was provided by Congress in the American Rescue Plan, which I proudly voted for last year.

The tests will be shipped for free through the U.S. Postal Service. Tests will usually ship in 7-12 days. If you need more immediate testing, you can find free community testing sites here. You are also encouraged to check out your county's testing portal for local information: Frederick County residents can click here, Carroll County residents can click here, and Montgomery County residents can click here. Your health insurance may also be able to reimburse you for up to eight at-home tests per month—contact your insurer for more information on how to access these additional tests for free.

If you live in multi-unit housing, like an apartment complex, and are unable to complete your order because someone else in your building already placed one, you can still redeem your tests. Try listing your apartment number in the "Street Address" line instead of the "Apt" line so that the system recognizes your address separately. If you are still having issues, you can call the Postal Service help desk at 1-800-ASK-USPS (1-800-275-8777), 1-800-232-0233 or file an inquiry online here.

Remember, testing is not our only defense against the coronavirus—vaccination (including booster shots) dramatically reduces the incidence of severe illness and wearing masks helps prevent transmission of the virus. You can still make an appointment to get vaccinated at vaccines.gov.
