Rockville, MD – Congressman Jamie Raskin (MD-08) recognized firefighters from Fort Detrick Fire and Emergency Services (Fort Detrick) and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) as Local Heroes for their courageous response to the Lyttonsville Road apartment complex fire on March 3. Rep. Raskin met with Captain Marquis Beavers of Fort Detrick and Lieutenant Francisco Martinez of MCFRS to recognize their crews as Local Heroes and to feature them on his weekly series recognizing community heroism across Maryland’s Eighth Congressional District.

“I’m profoundly grateful to these Fort Detrick and MCFRS firefighters for their courage through crisis,” said Rep. Raskin. “Their collaboration and agility facilitated a quick and successful evacuation of the Friendly Garden apartment complex. I’m further inspired by our community’s generosity of spirit, as we come together to support neighbors and tenants affected by the fire and extend gratitude to our first responders.”

“I created my weekly Local Heroes series to recognize the noble efforts of Marylanders helping Marylanders in our district,” Rep Raskin continued. “These firefighters, well-represented by Captain Beavers and Lieutenant Martinez, are exemplary reminders of the bravery and valor of the MD-08 community.”
