Moolenaar: The People Have Spoken; Gotion Must Go

November 8, 2023

Yesterday, voters in Green Charter Township in Mecosta County voted to recall all five remaining members of the township’s board of trustees and replace them with a new board. The recall election comes after the board refused to listen to residents and approved a deal to build a battery component factory with Gotion, a Chinese Communist Party-affiliated company.

“Congratulations to the people of Green Charter Township for electing new leaders. Now the MEDC and Gotion should announce they are heeding the election results, listening to the will of the people, and ending this deal. Otherwise, any burdensome costs incurred by the residents of Green Charter Township as they work to stop this project will be the fault of the township board members that just lost, the leaders in Lansing who ignored residents, and Gotion, which is trying to force itself into a community that does not want it,” said Congressman John Moolenaar. “These election results are a victory for concerned citizens. I will continue the work I am doing to speak the truth about the CCP and stop its efforts to weaken America.”

Moolenaar is a member of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party.
