Moolenaar: Treasury Department Response on CCP Investment Fails to Inform, Protect Michigan Residents

April 20, 2023

Congressman John Moolenaar has received a response from the Department of Treasury regarding his February 17, 2023 request for the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) to review Chinese Communist Party (CCP) affiliated investments in Michigan.

"Treasury's response fails to provide information on CCP investment in Michigan and reflects how the federal review process is broken. During the 46 days it took to craft this insufficient reply, CFIUS could have conducted a review of the CCP-affiliated Gotion project in Mecosta County. The lack of transparency in this process is concerning and people should be able to know that a company that is trying to come into their community is being reviewed for its ties,” said Congressman Moolenaar.

“While it is welcome that Gotion recently requested a federal review on its own, the subsidiary of a parent company that pledges allegiance to the CCP should not pass a CFIUS review to build a facility in Michigan,” added Moolenaar.

Congressman John Moolenaar previously wrote an op-ed opposing the proposed Gotion project in Mecosta County. His letter requesting a CFIUS review can be found here. The Department of Treasury's response to Congressman Moolenaar's letter can be found here.
