In mid-summer, Michigan was averaging only four deaths a day from coronavirus.

But as coronavirus cases began to surge this fall, a surge in deaths soon followed. Michigan is now averaging about 80 deaths a day from coronavirus, more than the daily average deaths from heart disease, the state’s No. 1 killer.
