Hydro, an industrial manufacturing company, has announced plans to expand into Cass County. Congressman Fred Upton tells us the company is planning to bring a new state-of-the-art aluminum recycling plant producing 120,000 tons of aluminum extrusion ingot per year to the Southwest Michigan Advanced Research and Technology Park in Cassopolis.

“It’s a great little industrial park cradled next to the railroad tracks right there east of town, and it’s a prime place to try to recruit talent and create jobs,” Upton said. “This is an industry that I think can do well with recycling and a whole number of different things. It’s going to create some jobs, and it will actually be one of the biggest job creations since the creation of Southwestern Michigan College.”

Upton says the $140 million manufacturing investment will create plenty of good-paying jobs and grow the economy in southwest Michigan. He tells us it’s one of the biggest developments announced for the SMART Park in Cassopolis, one that’s needed because the area has struggled to attract new business ventures.
