Vaccine for All: NYC Opening New Vaccine Site at Flatbush YMCA

March 30, 2021

YMCA will also host additional vaccination sites, with details coming soon

NEW YORK— Mayor Bill de Blasio announced this week that the City will open a new vaccination site at the Flatbush YMCA in Flatbush, Brooklyn, with plans to open additional sites in partnership with YMCA to serve community members in neighborhoods across the borough. The new vaccination site at the Flatbush YMCA will initially offer more than ~150 appointments per day (1,100 per week), gradually increasing to more than 2,300 per week, and will be open seven days a week from 9am to 6pm.

“From community vaccination sites, to canvassers and pop-ups, we are doing all we can to get shots in the arms of those who need it most,” said Mayor Bill de Blasio. "This Flatbush YMCA site will help us vaccinate our Brooklyn neighborhoods faster right in their communities."

Additional days and appointments will be available as supply increases citywide. Starting Tuesday, March 30, eligible New Yorkers can make an appointment at nyc.gov/vaccinefinder or by calling 877-VAX-4NYC. The site will open on March 31.

Additional vaccination sites in partnership with YMCA will include:

  • Coney Island YMCA in Brooklyn
  • La Central YMCA in the Bronx
  • Northeast Bronx YMC in the Bronx

Details about these sites, such as hours and days of operation, will be announced in the coming weeks.

“The pandemic has been extremely difficult for New York City and all of its amazing residents. By partnering with city agencies, we’re doing our part to make sure all New Yorkers are vaccinated as soon as possible,” said Sharon Greenberger, President & CEO of the YMCA of Greater New York. “As the leading nonprofit community service and wellness organization in NYC, providing vaccine access and education is critical to the YMCA’s mission of strengthening community and helping all New Yorkers improve their health and well-being. We’ll continue to do all we can to support our communities and serve those in need.”

"As one of the communities hardest-hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, our recovery has been among the slowest because of the racial disparities and limited resources. Despite the public health statistics, vaccination hubs have not been close to those who need it most. With the number of eligible New Yorkers growing and new variants on the rise, it is imperative that we remove the barriers to give Black and Brown families a fighting chance. The designation of the Flatbush YMCA as a COVID-19 vaccination site will help ease anxiety and fear among local families who were left behind by protecting the most vulnerable populations,” said Council Member Farah N. Louis.

“For many communities, the YMCA serves as the HUB for residents to socialize and engage with one another, and now it will be able to serve as an vaccination site within so many neighborhoods,” said Council Member Kevin C. Riley. “ I am thrilled that the Edenwald YMCA, here in the northeast Bronx, will be a part of this initiative to ensure equitable access to the communities hardest hit by COVID-19. I would like to thank Mayor Bill de Blasio and Sharon Greenberger, President and CEO of YMCA Greater New York for their collective efforts.  This initiative is a prime example of how much further we can go through collaborative partnerships.”
