Congressmen Cohen Advocates Passenger Route Between Memphis and Nashville at Hearing on Expanding Intercity Rail
Introduced measure to encourage multi-state passenger rail development
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure and its Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines and Hazardous Materials, today questioned expert witnesses at a hearing entitled "Leveraging the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act: Plans for Expanding Intercity Rail." Congressman Cohen introduced the Interstate Rail Compacts Advancement Act in May, which was signed into law as part of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
In his questions to Amtrak President Stephen Gardner, Congressman Cohen encouraged development of a Memphis-Nashville route and touted the benefits it would bring to future workers at Ford's Blue Oval City.
