Congressmen Cohen and Levin Lead Letter Urging Appointment of a State Department Coordinator for Global Anti-Corruption Efforts

June 22, 2022

WASHINGTON – Congressmen Steve Cohen (TN-09) and Andy Levin (MI-09) today led a letter with 24 Congressional colleagues asking Secretary of State Antony Blinken to appoint a Coordinator on Global Anti-Corruption.

The letter reads in part:

"As the Biden administration takes great strides towards elevating anti-corruption as a core national security priority, we write to urge you to appoint quickly a strong leader to the role of Coordinator on Global Anti-Corruption.

"We welcomed your announcement on December 9, 2021, of your intent to establish a State Department Coordinator on Global Anti-Corruption. Tackling corruption strengthens democracies by rooting out malign influence, enhancing transparency of the policymaking process, and creating a more even playing field for citizens from all backgrounds, and has been recognized as a national security priority by the Biden administration… Anti-corruption efforts are strongest when coordinated with our counterparts around the world, ensuring that kleptocrats have nowhere to turn to hide their illicit wealth."
