Arrington Sends Letter To Acting CBP Commissioner Demanding Answers on Noncitizen Crime Statistic Discrepancy

Today, Rep. Jodey C. Arrington (TX-19) sent a letter to Acting U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Troy Miller demanding answers for a discrepancy in their Noncitizen Crime Statistic data. Each month, CBP data has demonstrated a steady, alarming increase in crime. In September, the CBP data showed 53 homicides/manslaughters had been committed by noncitizens to date in FY21, a jarring 1666% increase from FY20. However, the most recently released data showed just 10 homicide/manslaughters for the entirety of FY21, prompting concern from Rep. Arrington about the accuracy of the data.

In the letter, Rep. Arrington wrote:

“Each month, my staff and I reviewed the Total Criminal Convictions by Type and confirmed that the crime rates are increasing across the board month over month. However, in reviewing the most recently published FY21 data, the “Homicide, manslaughter” category had inexplicably dropped from 53 – which represented a 1666% increase from FY2020 – to 10. My staff has reached out to your staff and has yet to receive a response.”
