Rep. Williams Introduces Legislation to Protect Our Students

May 24, 2023

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Roger Williams (TX-25) and Jared Moskowitz (FL-23) introduced the Safer Schools Act of 2023, which establishes two new grant programs that fund vulnerability assessments and physical security improvements to improve the safety of students and teachers in the classroom.

“No child or teacher should ever feel unsafe in the classroom, and funding should not be an obstacle for administrators who want to proactively address their physical security concerns," said Congressman Roger Williams. "In the Safer Schools Act, public school districts can apply for grants directly from the Department of Justice to help with assessments for their campus security vulnerabilities and for any corrective physical improvements. I urge consideration of this legislation on the floor of the House of Representatives as soon as possible."

“I’ve met too many parents who sent their kids to school who never came home,” said Congressman Jared Moskowitz. “No child should ever feel unsafe while learning, and no educator should feel unsafe while teaching. The Safer Schools Act leverages our best resources for keeping our kids safe, and I’m proud to be the co-lead on this bipartisan legislation.”
