Washington, D.C. – Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), released the following statement after voting against the Continuing Resolution to fund the federal government until December 3, 2021.
"Once again we see the Majority waiting until the last minute to consider funding resolutions to keep the federal government open," said Burgess. "Instead of spending the last nine months pushing forward a partisan agenda, the Majority should have taken the time to hold hearings and work with Republicans to pass bipartisan appropriation bills to keep the government running. America has watched as Democrats prioritized open borders, excessive spending on unnecessary economic support and unemployment payments, socializing health care, and promoting labor unions. These activities significantly increased the deficit and national debt, rather than seeking to prepare our younger generations for future financial stability.
"Further, the Majority is including a suspension of the debt limit through December 2022 in this Continuing Resolution. It is irresponsible for Congress to be considering raising the debt limit when the Majority is pushing for an additional $3.5 trillion in unnecessary spending.
"One of the most basic responsibilities of a government is to pass and implement a budget that works for the people. Congress must take this responsibility seriously and work together to pass each full fiscal year appropriations bill."
