Congressman Good Votes for Bipartisan Veterans Policy While Speaker Pelosi Plays Political Games

March 3, 2022

Washington, D.C. – This week, the House of Representatives voted on proposals related to healthcare benefits for veterans impacted by burn pit toxins.

Congressman Good joined an overwhelming majority of Republicans and voted against H.R. 3967, the so-called Honoring Our PACT Act after House Democrats broke with the tradition of crafting veterans’ benefits bills in a bipartisan fashion. If Pelosi’s partisan bill becomes law, the VA expects that the disability claims backlog would increase to 1.53 million claims by the end of FY23. Congressman Good voted instead for an amendment that would have passed the bipartisan Health Care for Burn Pit Veterans Act. The bill, which passed the Senate unanimously, would establish a one-year open enrollment period for post-9/11 combat veterans, among other needed reforms.

“I voted for the commonsense solution to immediately provide assistance to toxic-exposed veterans.Sadly, Nancy Pelosi is playing politics with our veterans instead of sending a bill to President Biden’s desk which could become law tomorrow and start helping veterans immediately. Congress should work together on solutions for our veterans, not ignore the bi-partisan work that has already been done in favor of a desperate attempt by Speaker Pelosi to turn this into an election year issue,” said Congressman Good.
