REP. GOOD INTRODUCES 4 BILLS TO REDUCE BIG GOVERNMENT SPENDING

January 10, 2023

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Bob Good (VA-05) is kicking off the 118th Congress with a series of legislation cracking down on government spending and the size of the government: The Nickel Plan, Less Is More Resolution, Article I Regulatory Budget Act, and the All Economic Regulations Are Transparent (ALERT) Act.

“When the government spends wastefully, it makes important budgetary decisions more difficult,” said Congressman Good. “Decades of unchecked spending and an out-of-control bureaucracy has resulted in a staggering national debt of over $31 trillion. The Biden Administration continues recklessly wasting taxpayer dollars with no regard for the consequences. That is why I continue to stand up and fight to protect the hard-earned dollars of taxpayers in Virginia and across the country. The last thing families and small business owners in Virginia need is Washington bureaucrats telling them how to live their lives or Washington politicians causing more inflation. That is why I am introducing legislation to limit spending and curb the federal government’s power.”

The Nickel Plan

The Nickel Plan would require the federal government to reduce its budget by one nickel for every dollar it spends annually over a period of five years.

“America is facing both an inflation crisis and a debt crisis, and they’re both being caused by Washington’s insatiable addiction to spending. While inflation hovers around 7% and our national debt reaches beyond $30 trillion, the time for action is now. Fortunately, Congressman Good has introduced the “Nickel Plan”, which would cut wasteful spending and put the United States on a path to achieving a balanced budget. The American people deserve serious action, thankfully Congressman Good is stepping up to the plate.” - Ryan Walker, Vice President of Government Relations, Heritage Action

"2022 saw record inflation as our national debt soared above $31 trillion. Americans are feeling the painful consequences of fiscally irresponsible governance. It's now more important than ever to rein in Washington and slash out-of-control spending. Rep. Bob Good's Less is More Act, and Nickel Plan Act hold Congress accountable and shrink the size and scope of onerous government programs." - Adam Brandon, FreedomWorks, President

Less Is More Resolution

The Less Is More Resolution amends the rules of the House to reduce the size and scope of government by limiting the number and cost of federal programs. It does so by requiring Members of Congress to cut two programs for every new one they introduce.

"2022 saw record inflation as our national debt soared above $31 trillion. Americans are feeling the painful consequences of fiscally irresponsible governance. It's now more important than ever to rein in Washington and slash out-of-control spending. Rep.
