River Falls Emergency Medical Services provider, Katy Frey, now a representative on the Wisconsin EMS Association board or directors, serves the community in various capacities.
What is your history in River Falls? I started my EMS career here in River Falls back in 2009 with the City of River Falls, first as a paid on call volunteer and then progressed over time into a full-time employee. I've always loved the community and everything that the area has to offer.
What organization are you a part of and what is your role? I am currently a critical care paramedic and the clinical coordinator for Allina Health EMS in River Falls. As a clinical coordinator, I am actively involved in our clinical operation, quality assurance, onboarding of new staff and continuing education of current staff.
How did you get involved? I've always enjoyed being a paramedic and have recently become more intrigued with organizational leadership which has played a big role in the clinical coordinator position at the base. It's been great to be able to work closely with our supervisor to help integrate Allina EMS into the community.
What is your favorite part about your work? If I had to pick just one favorite part about my work it would be interacting with the community. I've always truly loved helping people and serving the community; whether that is responding to emergencies, doing event standbys or educational requests and demonstrations. We get to interact with a variety of different individuals for many different reasons and I think that is my favorite part.
Outside of work, what else might you be doing? I love to do CrossFit/ I started about three years ago and it's become a constant routine for me ever since. I enjoy going on ATV trips with my family; we ride around rural St. Croix county and we like to visit northern Wisconsin annually. I also like to kayak the Kinni with friends and have recently picked up golf and Pickleball.
