Washington Update
Duty, Honor, Country
On Tuesday, I had the great honor of being elected Chairman of the West Point Board of Visitors (BOV) for a sixth term. The role of the West Point BOV is to provide independent advice and recommendations on institutional matters, including morale and discipline, curriculum, instruction, physical equipment, fiscal affairs, academic methods, and other issues to support our cadets.
I consider the United States Military Academy to be the world's preeminent leadership institution, and my commitment to these cadets grows stronger each year. Producing officers of character, capable of leading soldiers into armed conflict, is one of our nation's highest callings. I am grateful to my colleagues for this honor and to the bright young minds of my district who are committed to Army leadership.
Lowering Energy Costs for Arkansans
Our nation had a big win this week in our fight against President Biden’s Green New Deal agenda. House Republicans passed a bipartisan bill, the Lower Energy Costs Act (H.R. 1), which takes an all-of-the-above approach to American energy production.
This legislation will lower costs for families by increasing domestic energy production, reforming the permitting process for all industries, reversing anti-energy policies advanced by the Biden Administration, streamlining energy infrastructure and exports, and boosting the production and processing of critical minerals.
As my fellow Arkansans and I have painfully seen firsthand, President Biden’s shortsighted anti-energy decisions immediately killed thousands of jobs, drove up energy costs, and threatened our national security by making us reliant on foreign nations like Russia, China, and Venezuela.
House Republicans stood up for the American people and took a step toward reversing our president's unsustainable and dangerous plan by passing this crucial bill. It will be an uphill battle to get this bill through the Senate and get President Biden on board, but rest assured, I will continue to champion policies that get America back to what innovative and hardworking Americans do best: producing clean, reliable, and affordable energy to power our great nation.
Some picture highlights from the week:

I spoke to members on the House Veterans Affairs Committee this week about the VACANT Act, my bill with Senator Boozman that supports reliable and effective leadership at VA medical centers. This legislation ensures health services are being properly delivered to those who’ve worn America’s uniform.
My colleagues and I on the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Financial Services turned our attention to Chair Gensler this week to question him about the excessive SEC budget and rulemaking agenda. As Chairman and a fiscal conservative, I am committed to finding ways to rein in spending and unnecessary regulations.
I had a great discussion with folks from the NWA Economic Development District, INC. on the importance of workforce skill education. Thanks for coming by!
It’s always great to welcome a Razorback to my office! I sat down with Professor Raj Rao to talk about how critical research programs at U of A can result in future health breakthroughs for patients.
I have the utmost respect for those on the health care frontlines. I heard from the American Association of Colleges of Nursing about how Congress can help support the nursing workforce as the demand for healthcare professionals in growing regions, like Northwest Arkansas, continues to increase.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Little Rock District shared with me some exciting projects they’re working on in the River Valley and across the state, especially the MKARNS inland waterway system and construction at Ebbing Air Force Base.
I had the honor of meeting with Singaporean Ambassador Mirpuri to express Arkansans’ excitement to welcome the Singaporean Air Force community to Ft. Smith as part of the Foreign Military Sales Program.
Wishing you a great weekend ahead! Be sure to check out my website, Twitter, and Instagram pages to stay up-to-date with the latest news from my office.
