Weekly Update

Happy Good Friday! Today, we are united in prayer as we reflect on His sacrifice. May the grace of the Lord be with you and your families.

Unleashing American-made Energy

I’m back at home in Arkansas this week and next, doing what I love most—visiting with the great people of the Natural State! Before I left Washington, House Republicans tackled legislation to reverse the Biden Administration’s harmful energy agenda that’s making life unaffordable for many and our nation less secure.

Since his first day in office, President Biden has launched an assault on American-made energy. He killed the Keystone XL pipeline, paused all pending approvals of LNG export terminals, and restricted the production of gas-powered vehicles. As a result, Americans have lost jobs, and the cost of living has skyrocketed. To cover up this economic downturn, he drained the emergency-use Strategic Petroleum Reserve for political purposes, making us less safe and more reliant on foreign adversaries.

The House made it clear last week—our nation is safer and stronger when we are energy independent. We passed six bills to reverse course and unleash what America does best—produce clean, reliable, and affordable energy. Read below:

  • Creating Confidence in Clean Water Permitting Act: This legislation reforms and streamlines permitting processes under the Clean Water Act, providing relief against bureaucratic red tape for agriculture producers, builders, and energy producers while maintaining clean water protections.
  • Cutting Green Corruption and Taxes Act: This legislation repeals the $27 billion dollar greenhouse gas reduction slush fund established by the Inflation Reduction Act to prop up green climate banks with limited federal oversight.
  • Protecting American Energy Production Act: I’m an original cosponsor of this measure, which prevents any president from unilaterally banning hydraulic fracturing and expresses a sense of Congress that states should oversee the regulation of hydraulic fracturing for oil and natural gas production on state and private lands, not the federal government.
  • Restoring American Energy Dominance Act: The Biden Administration has used every tool at their disposal to stifle oil and gas production and increase costs for producers. This legislation nullifies a Bureau of Land Management (BLM) rule that would restrict oil and gas production on federal lands.
  • Expressing the sense of Congress that a carbon tax would be detrimental to the United States economy: This resolution highlights the damage a carbon tax would have on the economy, jobs, and the pocketbooks of Americans already struggling with inflation and high energy prices.
  • Denouncing the harmful, anti-American energy policies of the Biden administration: I’m a cosponsor of this resolution, which highlights the disastrous actions the Biden administration has taken to kill U.S. energy production, leading to all-time-high energy prices for consumers.

Where we stand in Congress: We wrapped up a busy legislative session last week, where we finally completed our FY24 appropriations work and avoided a harmful government shutdown. Listen to my Comment from the Capitol to hear a recap, HERE!

Around the District

Marshallese Women’s Conference

Image

It was a pleasure to attend the Marshallese Women's Conference this week! I shared some good news—Congress recently renewed the Compacts of Free Association, which allows citizens of the Freely Associated States (FAS), including the Marshall Islands, to live, study, and work in the US. The Compacts also grant the US basing rights, operational control, and the right to deny military access by third nations to the FAS, which promotes a strong partnership with the Pacific Islands and bolsters our national security.

Representing the highest concentration of Marshallese in the continental US is an honor. They're an integral part of Arkansas’ Third District, enhancing our economy and community. I'm proud to have helped restore access to the care and services they are entitled to under the Compacts. Thank you for having me!

Retirement Reception for Arkansas State Police Captain Scott Russell

Image

I had the great honor of presenting Captain Scott Russell, Arkansas State Police Troop L Commander, with a medallion to congratulate him on his retirement. His decades long career protecting Arkansans is incredibly admirable.

I spoke on the growth in our region. It has a lot to do with the good education opportunities, quality healthcare, and abundant jobs. But it mostly has to do with the sense of safety and security that we feel, and that attracts others to live in Northwest Arkansas. This is due to people like Capitan Russell, who dedicate themselves to protecting the citizens in our area and keeping the community safe. We are forever grateful for Captain Russell’s service to the Natural State!

Happy Easter Weekend!

"He is not here; He has risen!" (Luke 24:6)

Easter reminds us that light will always overcome darkness. May the grace of our Lord surround you on Sunday and always. Wishing you and your family abundant blessings as we reflect on this holy season of renewal, faith, and hope.

Have a blessed weekend ahead, and I hope to see you around next week! Be sure to check out my websiteTwitter, and Instagram pages in the meantime.
