Weekly Recap
Praying for President Trump, the victims, and our nation
On Saturday evening, a former U.S. president nearly lost his life. This heinous act was not just an assassination attempt, but an attack on our democracy, freedom, and the principles that define our nation.
President Trump showed incredible strength. My prayers continue to be with him, all the attendees, and those who were injured while exercising their Constitutional rights and caught in this heartbreaking act of violence.
My condolences to the family of Corey Comperatore, a former volunteer fire chief, who died while shielding his daughter from danger. He dedicated his life to service and duty, and died a hero, protecting his family when gunshots rang out.
My heart breaks for our country. We are a nation founded on democracy and political discourse. Disagreement is part of the American political fabric. But it’s never acceptable to accompany disagreement with violence. Despite our differences, we must come together as a nation to ensure we remain the beacon of strength, freedom, and resilience.
Starting Monday, Congress will conduct a full investigation of the tragedy to determine where there were lapses in security.
Securing wins for Arkansas’ Third District
Arkansans sent me to Congress to deliver results that will have real impacts on their daily lives. This is achieved through annual appropriations bills, which contain funding that will flow directly to projects in our community.
Whether the project focuses on improving infrastructure in Northwest Arkansas, preparing Fort Smith for the Foreign Military Sales mission, or supporting our hardworking firefighters' efforts to keep us safe, I want to ensure the needs of our growing region are met. Securing wins to improve the quality of life for Third District Arkansans remains my priority on the House Appropriations Committee.

Welcoming the SBA Administrator to Northwest Arkansas
My office and I have worked hand in hand with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) since the devastating Memorial Day weekend tornadoes hit our hometown. Yesterday, I welcomed SBA Administrator Isabel Guzman to Arkansas’ Third District to survey damage, meet with local businesses and homeowners impacted, and receive an update on the recovery process from local, state, and federal officials.
Northwest Arkansas is strong and well-positioned to overcome any obstacle, but the SBA’s resources are critical to helping the business community build back better than ever.
I’m incredibly grateful Administrator Guzman visited our community to hear directly from the homeowners, renters, and businesses impacted, further guiding us down the road to recovery.

Picture highlights from the week:
Visiting the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank
As our region grows, so will the need for hunger relief services. I had the chance to visit the NWA Food Bank’s new facility in Lowell ahead of the grand opening on August 1. Kent Eikenberry, NWA Food Bank’s president and CEO, and his team are well poised for future growth. To be able to occupy this facility to meet the needs of this growing area over the next couple of decades is a real dream come true.

Touring Willow Springs Ranch
I had a great visit to Willow Springs Ranch with the owners, Larry and Be-Ann Walker. This family-owned operation runs commercial angus cattle, raises cattle for kids to show in competitions, and more. It also has a beautiful wedding venue! The Walkers are the 2024 Washington County Farm Family of the Year and the 2024 Northwest District Farm Family of the Year. I’m grateful for the visit and for all the Walkers do for our community!
Advancing America’s Defense Capabilities
At the beginning of the week, I joined my House Appropriations Committee colleagues on a congressional delegation trip to Hawaii to assess U.S. defense capabilities and oversee the 2024 Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) Exercise. I’m extremely proud to see our military strengthening bonds across the Pacific.
I ran into some Arkansans while I was there!
