Week in Review

I hope you and your family have stayed safe and warm as the winter storm moved through Northwest Arkansas and the River Valley this week. Here are some helpful resources as local officials continue to clear the roads and get power back online:

General safety tips: https://ready.gov/winter-ready

Warming centers: https://gis-adem.hub.arcgis.com

Impacted roads: https://idrivearkansas.com

I’m grateful for the long hours and hard work our road crews, emergency personnel, and law enforcement officials are putting in to keep Arkansans safe!

Comment from the Capitol

Each week I’m in Washington, I make sure to update folks in Arkansas about what happened in Congress through my Comment from the Capitol.

This week, I recapped the contentious speaker vote and discussed the challenges ahead for Congress. Although I’m excited that Republicans control the House and Senate, we can’t ignore the potential issues that could arise with the slim majorities in both chambers as we work to implement President Trump’s agenda.

Tune in HERE

Confirmed: President-elect Trump’s Historic Victory

Every four years on January 6th at 1 p.m., the House and Senate gather on the House floor to certify the results of the presidential election, as designated in our Constitution. This time around, I had the honor of joining my colleagues in confirming the historic re-election of President-elect Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance!

Now, all eyes are on Inauguration Day, which is only 10 days away. January 20 will be the start of a new era in America. We will work hard to revive the conservative values that made our nation the greatest in the world. I look forward to rebuilding a stronger, safer, and more prosperous Arkansas and nation!

Passed: Protecting Americans from the Border Crisis

In 2024, Laken Riley, a college student with her whole life ahead of her, was murdered by an illegal alien who entered our country amid President Biden's border crisis.

Today is her birthday. She would have been 23 years old.

This is the heartbreaking reality of the open southern border, but through this tragedy came change. This week, I joined my colleagues in passing the Laken Riley Act in her honor, to ensure no family loses a loved one in this preventable way ever again. This legislation requires ICE to arrest and detain illegal aliens who commit a theft offense, just as Laken's killer did.

The Laken Riley Act will be voted on by the Senate next week and, if it passes, be signed into law by President Trump when he assumes office. No family should have to experience a senseless tragedy because of the Biden-Harris Administration's failure to secure the border.

Passed: Sanctioning the International Criminal Court (ICC)

The House also passed a bill called the Illegitimate Court Counteraction Act. I’m a proud cosponsor of the measure, which imposes sanctions on the International Criminal Court (ICC) for any efforts to investigate, arrest, detain, or prosecute any protected person of the United States and its allies, including Israel. Additionally, it ensures no current or future federal funding flows to the ICC.

This comes in response to the ICC’s arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu—equating Hamas’ terrorist actions with Israel’s defense of its people and homeland. This is ridiculous on its face. October 7, 2023, marked the deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust. Hamas brutally murdered, raped, and kidnapped thousands of innocent Israelis, 96 of whom they still hold hostage. Prime Minister Netanyahu’s response is justified.

This bill holds the ICC accountable for their illegitimate and dangerous claims, which threaten the U.S. and our allies. It’s our moral and strategic obligation to stand strong with Israel as they fight to destroy the evil Hamas terrorist network.

Introduced: Protecting 2A Rights of Law-Abiding Gun Owners

Along with over 120 of my colleagues, I helped introduce my friend Congressman Richard Hudson’s (R-NC) bill to protect the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding gun owners—the Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act. This legislation allows people with state-issued concealed carry licenses or permits to conceal a handgun in any other state. It also allows residents of Constitutional Carry states to carry in other states.

Constitutional rights shouldn’t end at state lines, and this bill ensures these rights are protected when Arkansans travel without having to worry about burdensome civil suits or conflicting state laws.

Have a great weekend ahead, and I hope to see you around! Be sure to check out my websiteTwitter, and Instagram pages in the meantime.
