WEEK IN REVIEW

What’s next for budget reconciliation?

As you may have seen, last week I voted to advance the Senate-amended version of H. Con. Res. 14—the Fiscal Year 2025 Budget Resolution. This resolution sets the stage for House and Senate committees to draft legislation that advances a responsible, pro-growth agenda.

This vote was just the second step in the budget reconciliation process. Now the real work begins, as committees of jurisdiction begin writing the actual legislation that will be voted on.

Our goal is to advance policies that help Americans succeed in the long term while responsibly reducing mandatory spending. That includes securing our southern border, investing in our national security, establishing American energy independence, and extending tax cuts that puts more money back in the pockets of hardworking Arkansans. Difficult decisions lie ahead, but I’m committed to ensuring the final package meets the moment.

Preserving Consumer Access to Overdraft Services

Before the Easter recess, I also voted in support of S.J.Res. 18, a joint resolution nullifying an eleventh-hour Biden Administration rule from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau that capped overdraft fees charged by large banks at $5. In practice, this rule imposes government price controls that ultimately reduce consumer access to the overdraft services that many depend on to pay for groceries and other necessities.

Fortunately, the resolution passed the House 217-211 and now awaits President Trump’s signature.

Strengthening our Military Alliances in the Indo-Pacific Region

During this month’s recess in the House, I had the opportunity to travel with some of my colleagues on the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense to understand the challenges facing our nation in the Pacific region. My engagements with military leadership and regional partners reaffirmed the need for greater defense measures to deter Chinese Communist Party aggression and strengthen strategic partnerships with our allies and partners. I look forward to continuing these discussions and ensuring our servicemembers have the capabilities and equipment needed to remain ahead of any threat in the region.
