Around the District

The Third District Welcomes HUD Secretary Scott Turner

On Tuesday, I was honored to welcome U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Scott Turner to Arkansas’s Third Congressional District. During his visit, I had the opportunity to show him how Northwest Arkansas is leading the way in housing affordability initiatives and economic development opportunities. Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders also joined to discuss several of these efforts, offering insights from a state-level perspective.

Together, we were able to have valuable conversations with elected officials, business owners, and community leaders who are committed to ensuring access to affordable housing for individuals and providing businesses with the resources they need to invest in, develop, and strengthen our communities.

The Winner ‘Paints’ It All

This week, I announced Kaden Nguyen, a junior at Haas Hall Academy at Fayetteville, as the winner of the 2025 Congressional Art Competition for the Third District. Kaden’s artwork, entitled “Preservation of Dusk over Center St.,” masterfully captures the final moments of dusk on Center Street in Fayetteville, showcasing remarkable technique and attention to detail. It will now hang on the wall of the U.S. Capitol for the next year.

This is my fifteenth year hosting the Congressional Art Competition in the Third District, and I was glad to see there was once again strong participation with students submitting 64 pieces of art from 15 different high schools in our district.

Picture highlights from the week:

Sec. Turner and I spoke to 11th and 12th graders attending Bentonville High School and Bentonville West High School, answering their questions about affordable housing and urban development. It was great to see the next generation so engaged in critical policy issues.

Sec. Turner, Gov. Sanders, and I toured Fayetteville Housing Authority’s Hillcrest Towers, a 120-unit complex offering accessible apartments for individuals aged 55+ or those with disabilities. While there, we met with residents and saw firsthand the incredible work being done by the complex’s staff.

This week, I spoke before the Council of Petroleum Accountants Society and highlighted the importance of unleashing American energy dominance while maintaining fiscal responsibility at the federal level.

While touring Blue Ribbon Outdoor, a landscaping business based in Rogers, I had the chance to learn more about their operations and discuss their infrastructure and workforce development needs. This company is a great example of why Northwest Arkansas is an attractive place to be in business.

In Fort Smith, I toured an International Paper facility that is a key supplier of packaging materials across Northwest Arkansas. Facilities like these provide good paying jobs and support other businesses within the community.

I toured PRADCO Fishing’s facility this week, a significant manufacturing center in our district for some of the top fishing lure brands in the industry. American manufacturing is critical, and it was great to see it firsthand.

At a roundtable discussion with young professionals in Fort Smith, I engaged business owners, executives, attorneys, accountants, and more to address key challenges and explore opportunities in the regional business landscape.
