Weekly Update
Around the District
The best part of my job is traveling across the Third District to meet with the people that make our region truly exceptional. While there is work still to be done in Washington on government funding, I put my time at home to good use by meeting with students, local businesses, seniors, and more. Connecting with stakeholders across the district, learning about their challenges and ways I can help, is imperative to my work in the Capitol.
The Third District Welcomes U.S. Department of Transportation Acting Maritime Administrator (MARAD) Sang H. Yi
On Tuesday and Wednesday, I was honored to welcome U.S. Department of Transportation Acting Maritime Administrator (MARAD) Sang H. Yi to Arkansas’s Third Congressional District. During his visit, I had the opportunity to show how Arkansas is committed to improving maritime and multimodal transportation in the state, across the nation, and around the world.
Together, we traveled throughout the district where we engaged with business owners, community leaders, and other stakeholders who are leading the charge to confront logistical bottlenecks, accelerate American manufacturing, and develop a highly skilled workforce to take on the challenges of tomorrow. From supply chain logistics to distribution operations and port management, Acting Administrator Yi got a firsthand look at the work being done in our region.

One of my favorite things to do when I’m in the district is to engage with students, as they are our nation’s future leaders. This week I visited an 8th grade class at Oakdale Middle School to speak with them about the freedom we have here in the United States and the importance of the U.S. Constitution. We discussed the three branches of government and the unique powers that the Constitution gives each of them. To illustrate how the Constitution can be changed, I spoke about a joint resolution that I champion that proposes an amendment to the Constitution granting Congress the power to prohibit the physical desecration of the American Flag.
I also had the opportunity to visit Garfield Scholars Academy with Mayor Blackburn to talk to students. I shared with them what my day to day is like in Washington serving as their representative in Congress.
Innovative solutions to address today’s healthcare challenges are crucial to achieving positive outcomes for patients. The Farm by Pediatrics Plus gives families with children in need of therapeutic services a unique solution by offering therapeutic interventions in a farm setting. I toured their facility in Rogers to learn about the ways they are serving families and children.
When I speak to young people, I often advise them how important it is to have a spirit of charity. Little Miss Arkansas Tiny Caroline Myers is just 4 years old, but she already displays this spirit. Caroline has volunteered for multiple community service opportunities with charitable organizations across Northwest Arkansas. Her platform and community service project is “Eye See You: Glasses for Good”. Through this program, Caroline collects glasses to recycle and donate to those who don’t have vision insurance. It was great to meet Caroline to learn about the project.

This week, I spoke at the grand opening of Central Junior High School in Springdale. Central Junior High was recently reconstructed, and the project nearly tripled the capacity of the old building. Educating our students is one of the most important things we will do as a society. Within the new walls of Central Junior High, faculty and staff will continue to develop the next generations of Americans.
I toured the new Springdale Senior Center that opened a few weeks ago. This new space is double the size of the previous senior center. The center engages Springdale seniors through various programs and clubs. The center offers a variety of classes and features pickle ball courts and a salon! While I was there, I was able to engage with seniors who are proud of the facility and excited to use the new space!
Have a great weekend ahead, and I hope to see you around! Be sure to check out my website, Twitter, and Instagram pages in the meantime.
