The Week in Review
Happy Friday!
I hope you had a wonderful week. I am grateful to serve you all in the 119th Congress. Read below to see what I’ve been working on this week.
Certifying the Results of the 2024 Election
On Monday, I attended a joint session of Congress to certify President-elect Trump’s victory in the 2024 election. Washington, D.C. faced snowy and icy conditions, but Congress understood the importance of getting in and working for the American people.
President-elect Trump’s victory was certified with no objections from the Democrats. It was the first time congressional Democrats did not raise a challenge to a Republican winner of the presidential election since certifying President George H.W. Bush’s victory in 1989.
President-elect Trump will be inaugurated as the 47th President of the United States on Monday, January 20, a mere ten days from now. I look forward to working with my colleagues to follow the mandate delivered by the American voters to secure the border and bend the spending curve down.

House Passes Laken Riley Act
This week, the House passed H.R. 29, the Laken Riley Act. This bill, named after 22-year-old nursing student Laken Riley who was brutally assaulted and murdered by an illegal alien, requires federal immigration authorities to detain illegal aliens arrested for, charged with, or who have admitted to theft-related crimes. It also would allow states to sue the Department of Homeland Security if they release an alien who later commits a crime in that state .
Every crime committed by an illegal alien is 100% preventable. I was glad to see the bill pass the House, despite 159 Democrats voting against it. But we still have much work to do to secure the border. Click the image below to hear more about the Laken Riley Act:

Reintroducing Key Border Security Bills to Dismantle Biden-Harris-Mayorkas Open-Border Policies
I will continue to make border security my number one priority in the 119th Congress. I’ve reintroduced legislation to facilitate imposition of the mandate to fix the border given to President-Elect Trump.
President Trump’s incoming Administration will work tirelessly to reverse the Biden-Harris regime’s disastrous open-border policies. I urge the GOP to quickly move my border legislation through the House and Senate so it’s ready to be signed into law by the President soon after his inauguration. The American people delivered a mandate; we must work in tandem with the executive branch to carry out the demands of the people.
I’ve reintroduced the following:
- H.R. 116, Stopping Border Surges Act – Closes loopholes in immigration law that serve as a magnet for illegal entry into the country and promotes increased integrity in the asylum system.
- H.R. 76, Fund and Complete the Border Wall Act – Establishes funding for the U.S.-Mexico border wall by taxing foreign remittance transfers, rightsizing immigration fees, and reducing foreign aid from countries whose nationals enter the US illegally.
- H.R. 61, Ensuring United Families at the Border Act – Protects migrant children from unsafe situations.
- H.R. 57, Ending Catch and Release Act – Prohibits DHS from paroling or releasing illegal aliens into the country while the alien’s immigration claim is pending.
- H.R. 64, Grant’s Law – Prohibits DHS from releasing illegal aliens who have been arrested for deportable crimes. This bill was named for a Fifth District constituent, Grant Ronnebeck, tragically killed by an illegal alien released from custody despite having a final order or removal.
- H.R. 103, Congressional Border Security Assessment Act – Ensures that Members of Congress have access to all parts of the southern border for national security oversight.
- H.R. 218, State Immigration Enforcement Act – Allows states and localities to pass and enforce laws that mirror federal immigration laws.
- H.R. 259, No Funding for Illegal Migrant Billboards Act – Prohibits the Homeland Security Secretary from advertising legal assistance services for noncitizens.

House Votes to Hold the Illegitimate International Criminal Court (ICC) Accountable
This week, the House passed H.R. 23, the Illegitimate Court Counteraction Act. This bill, introduced by Congressman Chip Roy (R-TX) and Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Brian Mast (R-FL), imposes sanctions on the International Criminal Court (ICC) if it investigates, arrests, detains, or prosecutes any protected person of the United States and our allies, including Israel. I’m an original cosponsor of the bill.
On May 20, 2024, the ICC announced unprecedented arrest warrant applications for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant. In response, I introduced a resolution reaffirming that neither the U.S. nor Israel are parties to the Rome Statute—the treaty that established the ICC. As such, neither nation recognizes the jurisdiction or legitimacy of the ICC.
Language from my resolution mentioned above was included in the final text for H.R. 23.
The ICC seeks to exercise authority it does not have, in jurisdiction from which it is excluded. As the only member of Congress who was in attendance at the Rome Conference where the ICC document originated, I can witness that the ICC is anti-America and anti-Israel.
I am pleased to have contributed language to H.R. 23 and to have voted yes on sanctions against the ICC. Click the image below to watch my Floor debate on Reps. Roy and Mast’s bill:

Restoring American Sovereignty and Respect on the World Stage
I have reintroduced additional legislation that will once again put American interests first.
The world has become less safe during the four years of the Biden-Harris regime. I look forward to working with President Trump as we restore the leadership of the United States, end our involvement in sovereignty-stripping entanglements, and promote peace through strength. I urge my colleagues to quickly pass these bills as we respond to the mandate our voters gave us in November.
My reintroduced legislation includes the following:
- H.Res.9 - Reaffirms that the United States is not a party to the Rome Statute and does not recognize the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court (ICC).
- H.R. 54, WHO Withdrawal Act – Requires the President to immediately withdraw the United States from the World Health Organization (WHO) and prohibits the use of federal funds to provide for U.S. participation in WHO.
- H.R. 93, Stop Imposing Woke Ideology Abroad Act – Prohibits using federal funds to implement the State Department’s Special Representative for Racial Equity and Justice and its Equity Action Plan.
- H.R. 94, A bill to terminate the designation of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan as a major non-NATO ally.

Congress's Mandate to Enact the President-Elect's Agenda: Op-Ed
Congress has a mandate to enact President-elect Trump’s agenda. The voters spoke loudly on two issues, the border and inflation. Rightly so. The Biden-Mayorkas team did generational damage to our sovereign integrity by opening the border to the world. And Congress has neglected our budget for decades resulting in a cascade of national debt that is fueling inflation.
Townhall published this op-ed, and the full piece can be found here.
