NEW LEGISLATION ALERT: Monitor Accountability Act of 2026 and the TRUE Accountability Act
This week, my new bill, The Monitor Accountability Act, was marked up in the U.S. House Judiciary Committee. The bill targets the egregious overreach of the federal monitor in the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), who was appointed in 2013 and has expanded his overview of the department repeatedly, despite near‑total compliance.
Arizona taxpayers have absorbed nearly $350 million in costs for this court-ordered oversight, including more than $32 million paid directly to the monitor and his firm. This prolonged intervention has also worsened deputy attrition and recruitment challenges, affecting MCSO’s ability to serve the good citizens of its jurisdiction.
If you’re interested in learning more about this issue and its history in Maricopa County, then click below to watch my opening statement in the Judiciary Committee:

Were you previously aware that a court-appointed monitor has been overseeing the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office for over a decade, taking millions of taxpayer dollars for his work? |

Speaking at an Anti-Child Trafficking Roundtable
It was an honor to speak at the ATIP Policy Roundtable about anti-trafficking and child exploitation policy.
My CSAFE Act, which unanimously passed the House in January and targets criminals who exploit and coerce minors, is just one example of the work I am doing to protect our children.
I look forward to continuing to partner with relevant organizations, survivor advocates, and lawmakers on this important issue.
