TRUE Accountability Act Advances out of Oversight Committee
The TRUE Accountability Act, which I cosponsored with Rep. Suhas Subramanyam, advanced out of the Oversight Committee this week. This bipartisan piece of legislation requires agencies to develop plans to prevent fraud in the event of an emergency or crisis - a sorely needed policy to ensure the mass scale of the fraud that occurred after COVID-19 does not happen again.
American taxpayers work extremely hard for their money, and they deserve to know that government agencies are committed to wisely stewarding their dollars – not allowing the funds to be stolen by fraudulent entities, especially in times of emergency or crisis.

Chairing a Judiciary Hearing on Kayleigh's Law: "Everyone Should be able to Come Together to Support Victim Protection"
Kayleigh Kozak is an Arizona native and survivor-advocate. After learning that the man who abused her as a child was attempting to terminate his probation, Kayleigh sought a protective order from the court. However, Kayleigh was shocked to learn the court required evidence of a recent encounter between her and this man to even consider a protective order. Her request for safety was denied.
Kayleigh worked tirelessly with Republicans in the Arizona Legislature to pass the first Kayleigh’s Law–giving survivors the ability to petition a judge for a lifetime prohibition against offenders convicted of violent crimes, including sex trafficking and child sexual abuse.

Now, my colleague, Rep. Abe Hamadeh, has introduced Kayleigh’s Law at the federal level, of which I am a co-sponsor. As Chairman of the Crime Subcommittee of the U.S. House Judiciary Committee, I have made it my priority to protect and support victims of violent crime, like Kayleigh.
