Remembering Senator Kyl 

This week, the family of former U.S. Senator Jon Kyl announced his passing at the age of 84.

For almost three decades, Jon Kyl served the people of Arizona in the U.S. House and Senate with distinction, integrity, and an unwavering dedication to our state. I was honored to serve alongside Senator Kyl in Congress during his return to the U.S. Senate in 2018. I greatly valued his wisdom and deep understanding of the critical issues facing our state. 

Senator Kyl’s example demonstrated that public service can be carried out with principle, dignity, and a genuine devotion to the people one represents. My prayers are with his beloved wife, Caryll, their children, grandchildren, and the entire Kyl family as they mourn his passing. May Senator Kyl always be remembered as a servant leader who loved Arizona and dedicated so much of his life to making our state and country stronger.

Securing Arizona’s Water Future

This week, I introduced the Colorado River Basin Water Security and Infrastructure Act to expand water supplies, accelerate critical infrastructure projects, and strengthen long-term water security throughout the Colorado River Basin.

My bill offers a path forward by investing in new water, modernizing critical infrastructure, and removing unnecessary federal barriers that can delay projects for years. Increasing the amount of water available to the Basin will bolster our single-family housing market, and strengthen food security, economic security, and national security throughout the American Southwest. We cannot simply wait for relief from the drought or conserve our way out of this crisis. We must think big, demonstrate leadership, and deliver real solutions that will bring relief for decades to come.

Continuing the Maricopa County Grift

Late last week, U.S. District Judge Murray Snow continued the grift of the federal court monitor in Maricopa County, who has far outlived his original purpose while costing county taxpayers $350 million for more than 13 years. Since this monitorship began, about $32 million has been paid directly to the monitor’s firm, with a demand granted by the Court that the County have zero oversight into the bills the monitor submits.

I am profoundly disturbed that the court allowed this rogue federal monitor to remain in place in Maricopa County. The monitor’s continued existence in our county and propensity for moving the goalposts from his original charge exploits taxpayers and undermines the brave work of law enforcement. This most-recent ruling underscores the need for the Senate to pass my Monitor Accountability Act, which sets common-sense and clear rules for courts’ use of federal monitors. I stand with the people and law enforcement officers of Maricopa County!

Honoring the United States Constitution

This week, we honored the United States Constitution on the anniversary of its signing in 1787.

I am profoundly grateful for those who went before, framed this extraordinary document, and for the liberty it has secured for generations of Americans.

Meetings and District Events

I had the pleasure of welcoming Interior Secretary Doug Burgum to Arizona during the August district work period! We toured the Miami Smelter, a copper processing facility in Claypool. This site is essential for copper and other critical-mineral production.

I was honored to meet with Adam Kraut, Executive Director of the Second Amendment Foundation, and the Women for Gun Rights group. We discussed current legislative efforts to protect the Second Amendment for Arizonans. Thank you, everyone, for stopping by my office!

It was great to welcome Surprise City Councilmember Patrick Duffy to Washington, D.C.! We talked about infrastructure needs in the city and how to better improve them.
