Vaccinations and the Economic Recovery

Image

This past week, the Joint Economic Committee hosted a remote hearing on “Vaccinations and the Economic Recovery,” where we discussed the importance of restoring our economy, and the several breakthroughs in healthcare we saw this last year during the COVID-19 pandemic. During the hearing, I discussed how healthcare is a primary driver of U.S. debt over the next decade, particularly how 90 percent of the nation’s $3.8 trillion in annual health care spending is on chronic and mental health conditions.

Operation Warp Speed helped produce countermeasures in record time, dramatically accelerating rollouts across the country and our communities. I believe scientists must use what was learned through Operation Warp Speed, particularly with new mRNA technology, to advance research behind new therapies, vaccines, cures, and other life-saving therapeutics to help our brothers and sisters fighting for their health and against high health care costs.

We are on the cusp of a technology revolution, particularly in healthcare. We must continue to drive innovation, capitalize on these advancements, and deliver the quality care solutions that you and your loved ones deserve. To watch the full hearing and my remarks, click

Republicans' Energy Innovation Agenda

Image

Today, I joined House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy in introducing legislation as a part of the innovation portion of Republicans' Energy Innovation Agenda. My legislation would significantly improve and permanently extend 45Q, the tax credit for carbon capture and sequestration, further allowing industry the ability to responsibly curb carbon emissions while creating jobs and spurring economic growth.

Our number one priority right now should be creating jobs and incentivizing Americans to re-enter the workforce. I am proud to be part of this effort to promote responsible carbon removal technology, and help industry reduce our carbon footprint on a larger scale. Read more on this agenda here.

In Arizona, you now have until May 17th to contribute to charitable organizations, foster care charitable organizations, school tuition organizations, and public schools through tax credits on your 2020 individual income tax return. This comes after a recent announcement from the Arizona Department of Revenue. Read more on this update here
