District Update |April 26, 2021

Dear Friend,

I hope that you and your family are doing well. I wanted to provide you with a few important updates to be aware of, and my recent work in Washington, D.C.

Economic Impact of Open Borders Speech

I recently discussed this Administration's open border and economic policies on the House Floor. By incentivizing migrants to come across our border illegally,
President Biden is not only putting Arizonans at risk, but also hurting the working poor who have seen the highest unemployment rates this past year and are still looking for work.

I also discussed the importance of promoting pro-growth policies in Congress to help Americans return to work, and restore our economy to the record growth we saw just over a year ago. Under the previous Republican-led tax cuts, we saw the greatest increase in wages, specifically for minorities and women, record-low unemployment, and robust economic growth. I will continue to advocate for legislation to help re-open our country and economy.

Arizona Education Update

I wanted to make you aware of the resources on my website for Arizona parents and students. Parents are able to check my website for helpful updates and resources for school openings and mask mandates. Recently, Governor Ducey rescinded the requirement of masks in schools, but some schools may still enforce face coverings for students at their own discretion. Visit this link for more information on in-person learning.

If you have any questions regarding your student's remaining school year plan, it is encouraged you contact the school district for further details.

Ways and Means Committee Hearing

Last week, I participated in the Ways and Means Committee hearing discussing paid leave, childcare, and the economy. During the hearing, I discussed the importance of crafting policy to help workers return to the labor force and making their labor more valuable. Image

I am continuing to work with my colleagues to create solutions to help encourage individuals to return to work. We must be focused on helping these individuals in order to re-create the record growth in wages and opportunity they saw prior to the pandemic, especially as we are seeing the data showing low-wage workers have been disproportionately impacted by this last year of closures.
