Dear Friend,
I hope you are continuing to stay well.
Last night, the House was scheduled to vote on the $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill and the Democrats $3.5 trillion tax and spending package to allow for work to begin on their "budget box." Today, my Democratic colleagues have moved forward with passing the budget resolution without any debate.
As we are seeing prices rising across the country, businesses struggling to hire, and a growing humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan and at our southern border, my Democratic colleagues are solely focused on passing partisan proposals to raise taxes and federalize elections, without any bipartisan debate. This is unacceptable.
Below you will see a chart depicting the consistent rise in inflation over the last six months. Any spending policies should be focused on cutting spending and promoting pro-growth tax and regulatory policy to help businesses retain workers and reduce inflation.
As we see each of the different proposals included in this spending package, I will be sure to keep you updated. Be on the lookout each week for an update on these costly proposals.
Growing Arizona's Technology Future
Last week I returned for a visit to my alma mater Arizona State University, where I had the privilege of moderating a panel discussing the ways our state and its universities plan to expand and advance technology here at home for the future.
This panel focused on how educators will likely play a large role in expanding technology, through developing courses that will foster new research and innovation. We are in the midst of a technology revolution, and it is important that we continue bolstering modern technology careers at home to draw global attention to the growing technology industry across the United States. It was a pleasure to moderate this panel!
Fighting Back Against Tax Hikes
Earlier last week, I met with Commercial Real Estate leaders in our district to discuss the current market conditions and pending legislation that would increase taxes, adversely impacting our businesses and investment in our community.
Current proposals to increase the capital gains tax rate, corporate tax rate, and to limit 1031 exchanges would be incredibly harmful to our business and real estate community. Arizona has had great success in promoting a welcoming business and living environment through pro-growth policies that incentivize investment and create strong economic growth. I will continue to fight back against proposals that would increase taxes on our businesses or families.
Service Academy Applications Reminder
I wanted to remind you that the deadline for graduating high school seniors to submit Service Academy Nomination Applications will be on October 8, 2021 to my Scottsdale Office. Each year, I have the distinct pleasure of nominating a select number of students to serve and attend our prestigious academies.
Our service members have served to protect our freedoms at home and abroad. I am forever grateful for each of our veterans service, and each student making the choice to serve our country in the U.S. Military. For more information on the nomination process, visit my website.
U.S. Citizens in Need of Assistance in Afghanistan
I would like to highlight the current resources that are available on my website for Arizonans or their family members who are currently seeking repatriation back into the United States from Afghanistan.
This page highlights the necessary steps that must be taken to file for safe relocation. If you need assistance with this process, please contact my District office at (480) 946-2411.
Sincerely,
David Schweikert
