Dear Friend,
I hope you and your family are staying healthy and well. I want to wish each of you a happy Labor Day. Our nation is built on the hard work and dedication of our American workforce. Today, we celebrate Americans' contributions to creating a strong and healthy labor force.
Below you will find an update on my recent work for Arizona's 6th District.
Resolution Honoring Our Fallen Servicemembers
I recently signed onto a bipartisan resolution introduced by my colleague from Michigan, Rep. Lisa McClain, to award a Congressional Gold Medal to each of the 13 servicemembers we lost in Afghanistan.
The bravery and selflessness of our men and women who put themselves in harms way for the preservation of our nation is unmatched. We must come together to pay tribute to each of the heroes who lost their life while serving in Afghanistan, and those who lost their life while protecting Americans and Afghan allies in Kabul.
I stand with the families, the loved ones, and the friends of our service members lost in Afghanistan. God bless our military and Gold Star Families.
Jobs Report Falls Below Expectations
We received the August Jobs report last Friday which reported 225,000 jobs were added in August. This number was far below economists projection for 720,000 jobs to be added in August. We also saw data showing there are 800,000+ individuals who have dropped out of the labor market, without any signs of returning to work. This data underscores the importance of us promoting pro-growth tax and regulatory policies that will create jobs, help individuals return to work, and incentivize investment in our economy.
This week, I will be joining the Ways and Means Committee meetings on the Democrats' $3.5 trillion tax and spending bill. This legislation is the exact opposite approach we should be taking right now - particularly at a time when we are seeing inflation continue to rise. We expect to see an increase in the corporate tax rate, which would negatively impact our main street businesses, and an increase in the capital gains tax which would deter investment.
I will be sure to keep you updated on the tax and spending policies we see coming forth on my weekly newsletter and my social media channels.
