District Update |September 27, 2021

Dear Friend,

I hope you and your family are staying well. This past week, I was in Washington D.C. meeting with constituents and fighting against the Democrats' $3.5 trillion tax and spending bill.

Check out what I worked on below.

Hard Working Americans Will Get Slammed by the $3.5 Trillion Bill

Image

Last week, I spoke on the House Floor voicing my concerns about the implications of the Democrats' $3.5 trillion tax and spending bill. This bill will crush lower-middle working class families' ability to economically exist.

Our working-class population will likely be hit the hardest by the immigration crisis currently unfolding at our Southern border. This massive influx of migrants entering the U.S. completely hinders our working Americans' earning power and devalues their labor. In addition, lower and middle class workers are up against rising inflation, which is absorbing their income through increased spending on everyday items like groceries, gas, and rent.

My brothers and sisters on the left have reiterated that our working-poor will be covered through a transfer payment model, which will protect them from rising costs and lowering wages. This model that they've come up with is a political ploy to create ongoing government dependency.

We should be promoting policy that will invest in worker productivity and increase the value of labor, not creating an entitlement economy that prioritizes consumption and overlooks production. I do not want to see future generations burdened by debt-obligations that could have been avoided.

National Clean Energy Week

Image

Last week marked the 5th annual National Clean Energy Week. In honor of this important week, I wanted to share the work I am doing in Congress to create a cleaner environment for us and generations to come.

I have and continue to be a strong supporter for clean energy solutions that will reduce our carbon footprint and promote U.S. energy independence. It is essential that we continue the conversation around how we can promote clean, free-market energy alternatives and work to cultivate policies that will support research initiatives and advance innovative technology.

Recently, I’ve proposed several pieces of legislation to advance to Advance clean energy technology. These pieces of legislation include:

  • Expanding the 45Q tax credit – allowing for greater investment in carbon capture technology by improving and permanently expanding the credit to help capture and sequester carbon
  • Energy Sector Innovation Tax Credit – bipartisan energy tax proposal to encourage innovation in the clean energy sector to rapidly scale-up and diversify new technologies.

It is imperative that we are working to promote pro-growth energy and environment policies that will strengthen our economy and environment. To find out more about my ongoing commitment to the energy and environment sector, click here.

Why I Will Always Protect Life

Image

On Thursday, I spoke on the House Floor to share my personal story about defending life. My birth mother chose to give me up for adoption, and I am grateful to be here today because of that decision.

My father, myself, and my daughter are all adopted. With three generations of adoption in my family, I've both seen and experienced how these decisions have given my family members and I a chance at life. I will always fight to protect the lives of the unborn.

Meeting with WTO Director General

Image

Last week, the Ways and Means Committee hosted a roundtable with the World Trade Organization (WTO) Director General to discuss the organization's important role in global trade. In our meeting, we highlighted the need for WTO reform, to ensure that the WTO's rules for international trade address the specific needs of the United States and other free and open economies in the twenty-first century.

My bipartisan WTO support resolution H.Res.382 addresses this need for reform.
