District Update |October 4, 2021

Dear Friend,

I hope you and your family are staying well. This past week, the debate continued on the Democrats' $3.5 trillion reconciliation bill.

Hidden Items in the Biden Bill

The Democrats' $3.5 trillion tax and spending bill continues to reveal troubling provisions that appease their partisan legislative agenda. These provisions have the potential to negatively affect lower and middle class Americans, and are at total odds with what the Biden Administration has promised this legislation will do.

Below are just a few of them:

These provisions, along with many others that are proposed, will create immense difficulties for hard working American families and are deceiving ways to subsidize the wealthy and corporations that can afford to swallow these increased costs.

Meeting with the Foreign Minister of Singapore

Image

Last week, I met with Singapore Foreign Minister Balakrishnan to discuss the ways Congress can promote collaboration between the United States and Singapore, and the wider Asia-Pacific region.

As our world becomes more globally connected through new technology and the worldwide web, it is so important that we amplify the conversation around expanding the digital economy, cybersecurity, and building smarter cities. Enhancing these sectors will strengthen foreign relationships and contribute substantially to our global economy.

As co-chair of the Singapore Caucus, the close ties the United States and Singapore share are extremely important to me. I always enjoy getting to work with our overseas allies.

Letter to the U.S. Marine Corps

I signed onto a letter along with my Republican colleagues, urging the prompt release of Lt. Col. Scheller, who was wrongly prosecuted for speaking out against his own military leaders for their gross mishandling of the Afghanistan withdrawal.

Congressional App Challenge

I wanted to bring a great opportunity to the attention of my constituents who are students.

Congress is holding a challenge offering students interested in computer science and STEM fields the chance to design their very own app. The winner will have their app displayed in the U.S. Capitol Building and featured on the House of Representatives Website.

For more details on the contest please click here and to enter the competition, click here.

As a staunch advocate for the importance of computer science and STEM fields, I'm excited to see what all the contestants come up with!

Thank you for taking the time to read my newsletter. I always appreciate hearing from each of you. If you ever are in need of assistance or need a service, please do not hesitate to reach out to my office.

Sincerely,

David Schweikert
