I hope you had a restful weekend. Last week was a busy one at home in AZ-06. It was a pleasure to honor and pay tribute to the selfless men and women who have served our nation this past Veteran's Day.

Fountain Hills Joint Veteran's Day Ceremony

Last week, I spoke at the Joint Veteran's Day Ceremony in Fountain Hills, to honor our retired service members. It was a privilege to be able to join in celebrating our veterans and announce the grand opening of a new homeless shelter in Phoenix that is dedicated to helping them.

Addressing The News From The Scottsdale School Board

Last week, it came to light that the Scottsdale Unified School District (SUSD) school board is retaliating against parents who publicly voiced concerns about the school district’s policies. It is reported that a secret file is being kept on dozens of these parents, which includes sensitive and confidential information. 

This type of behavior is simply unacceptable, and I am very troubled and disappointed in hearing this news about the school system that I grew up in. No parent should ever fear retaliation from a school board, rather, they should always feel free to express their opinions as guaranteed by the First Amendment.

Build Back Better: The Facts

While Joe Biden and Democrats in Congress continue to promote the “Build Back Better” bill, the facts remain the same: this bill will increase spending to historic levels, add trillions to the national debt, and cause inflation to continue skyrocketing. Here are just a few of the consequences this legislation will enact:

• $4.26 trillion in new spending over 10 years (Penn Wharton Budget Model)
• 25.2% federal debt increase by 2050 (Penn Wharton Budget Model)
• 2.8% lower GDP by 2050 (Penn Wharton Budget Model)
• 20%-30% of middle-income earners will see increased taxes next year (Tax Policy Center)
• The top 1% of earners will not see their taxes increased next year (Tax Policy Center)

Legislation In The Works: Exiting the Pandemic State

Last week, I mentioned that there are reports of medical breakthroughs against COVID-19, specifically in the form of antiviral pills. I believe the combination of vaccines and treatment options provides us with the necessary tools to return to our normal way of life.

That’s why I am working to introduce legislation that would declare the Public Health Emergency Declaration over upon the FDA’s approval of additional treatments against COVID-19. This legislation that I am proposing should be ready in the coming days, and when it is I will let you know on my Facebook and Twitter pages.

Open Application: Spring Internship Program

Our office has opened applications for full and part-time congressional internships in the Scottsdale and Washington, D.C. offices for the Spring 2022 term.

Students interested in applying should be motivated, detail oriented, display a strong work ethic, and interact well with constituents. In addition, applicants should have a strong interest in the legislative process and the function of Congress. For more information please click here.
