District Update |February 14, 2022

Dear Friend,

I hope you had a great weekend and Super Bowl Sunday. Below is a brief update of my most recent work in Congress and some important news updates.

The National Debt And Our Nation's Future

Last Tuesday, I spoke on the House Floor about the issues driving our national debt, and what that means for our future. If we follow the math and accept facts over rhetoric, it’s clear that the Democrats’ policies are leading us down a road to financial ruin. The decisions we make today will impact generations to come. As a father of a six-year-old daughter, this is an issue that keeps me up at night. To watch my full speech, click here.

Inflation At Its Highest In Four Decades

Inflation just reached its highest level in 40 years. Everything from gas and food, to household energy is costing us significantly more today than it did a year ago. The recently released Consumer Price Index lays this out in great detail

What is the response from the Democrats in Congress to this record level of inflation that has been brought on by their own policies? Blame it on the American worker. That’s exactly what Nancy Pelosi did this Sunday, when she said on national television that the “inflation thing” is caused by people being employed. I guess Speaker Pelosi forgot a basic lesson of high school economics because that statement shifts blame to workers, not her own party's policies. The Fentanyl Epidemic

The crisis at our southern border has led to a massive surge in fentanyl reaching our communities. The Customs and Border Protection agency saw a 133% increase in fentanyl seizures in 2021 over 2020. That is a staggering number, and it is bringing tragedy to many communities across the country.

We need to confront this epidemic and give our brave law enforcement officers all the tools they need to win this battle over illicit drugs, and that starts with making fentanyl-related substances a permanent Schedule 1 classification. Last week, I proudly joined 114 of my Republican colleagues on a letter to President Biden, urging him to make this classification everlasting. To read the full letter, click here.
