Dear ,
Last week was another productive one in Congress and back home in Arizona. As you may have noticed, we've launched a new design for our newsletter as well as our website. If you have not seen our redesigned website yet, you can do so by clicking here.
The Left Promised The Prices We Are Seeing Today
On Wednesday, I spoke on the House floor about what we've seen happen to U.S. energy policy since the Democrats took unified control of the federal government. In wake of the outrageous prices we're seeing at the gas pump and on our monthly heating bills, it is important for everyone to understand how this happened.
This is not the sole result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine that President Biden pointed to just last week. Rather, this goes all the way back to 2019 when the Democratic majority in the House of Representatives began promoting policies that threaten companies that invest in capital markets for hydrocarbons. Now, the tragedy unfolding abroad is only exacerbating the issue.
My full floor speech goes into detail about what led us to this point. You can watch it here.
What's Included in the Democrats' Omnibus Package
Last week, House Democrats forced a vote on their 2,700-page omnibus spending bill less than 24 hours after releasing the text. While there are portions of the bill that are valuable, like funding to help Ukraine, they are completely outweighed by the enormous amount of pork that has been stuffed into this package. Below are just a couple of examples:
- $3.2 million for a bike path in Rhode Island
- $2 million for soccer fields in Anaheim, California
- $800,000 for “artist lofts” in Pamona, California
- $496,000 for a swimming pool in Yonkers, New York
- $142,500 for Las Vegas bike-share bikes.
It is clear from these ridiculous earmarks that the Democrats do not have their priorities in check when it comes to government spending or what matters to the American people. I have committed not to support any earmark spending. To read my full statement on the omnibus package, click here.
Arizona Has Been Hit The Hardest By Inflation
The Bureau of Labor Statistics recently released a report which found that the Phoenix area has outpaced the nation in inflation over the past year. Statistics have shown that Phoenix-area energy costs have risen by a staggering 29.6% in that time, and that is in addition to the costs of inflation has inflicted on food and other necessities.
At a time when Arizonans are disproportionately slammed with increased costs, the Democrats continue to discuss new spending legislation that will raise taxes and increase the burden on your ability to save. The out of control spending in Washington needs to stop.
Meetings Back in the Capitol Continue
It continues to be a joy to have visitors back to the capitol for legislative business. Myself and my staff are so happy to resume in-person meetings after two years of zoom meetings and computer screens. I'm looking forward to continuing to meet with great Arizona-based companies and organizations that come to DC.
