Dear ,
Happy Spring. I'd like to give my congratulations to the Arizona Wildcats for moving on to the Sweet 16 this past weekend, what a great game!
Below, please find my update of the most recent happenings in Congress and at home in the 6th district.
The Left's Policy Model Will Not Set Us Up For Success
Last week, I spoke on the House floor about the rhetoric we have seen coming from the left. Specifically, I outlined the misery they have caused through formidable legislation and reckless government spending plans.
I have made it a mission of mine to come to the House floor week after week to show that the math does not lie. These numbers are real and they are worrisome. House Democrats have done an astonishingly good job of virtue signaling and making their policies appear as though they will help everyday Americans. But this rhetoric is not based on the facts. You can watch me go into greater depth on this problem here.
President Zelensky's Address to the United States
On Wednesday, I had the honor of listening to President Zelensky address Congress virtually from Kyiv. It was inspiring to see him speak so strongly and fearlessly as his country faces an unprovoked conflict from Russia. His bravery is emblematic of what a true leader should be. President Zelensky has stood by his people every step of the way, and I too, want to express my deepest support for the people of Ukraine.
Many of you have reached out to my office asking if there is a way to help those in Ukraine. There are several local, state, federal and international government agencies and departments that are providing aid right now. Key information and guidance can be found on my website here. I’d like to highlight two additional links listed below:
My office has recently received a handful of inquiries about scammers pretending to raise money for Ukraine. I wanted to flag these potential risks and remind you to use caution when donating, to make sure your money is going to the right place. For helpful tips, please click here.
We Must Address The Millions of Legal Immigration Backlogs
On Friday, I sent a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, asking for the immediate reopening of the United States Citizen and Immigration Services offices to confront the millions of backlogs in processing legal immigrants into the US.
The Biden Administration has outright neglected our immigration laws, letting millions of illegal immigrants come through the border, while leaving those who have worked hard to take the legal path in the dark. President Biden has a flawed approach to handling our immigration system, and we must fix it now. To read my full letter, click here.
Is Your Passport Up For Renewal?
Warm weather is on the horizon, and I know that many of you are planning for vacations or travel over the summer. I would like to provide a gentle reminder to any of you looking to book international travel in the coming months to please check your passport expiration date.
You can visit my website here, for information on passport renewals and turn around time frames. To speak directly with my office about passport questions or issues, you can contact my district office.
Tax Season Is Here
With tax season well underway, I would like to provide you with some resources that the IRS has publicly shared to make sure you are aware. I understand this process can be tedious, so below I've included a couple resources directly from the IRS website for your convenience:
- The filing deadline is April 18th for most taxpayers. There are currently no plans to extend the filing deadline.
- Tax filers are encouraged to file their taxes both electronically and as soon as possible, as individuals are still experiencing delays on last year's paper tax returns due to IRS's limited staffing amid the pandemic.
- People who received advance Child Tax Credit payments in 2021 need to ensure the amounts they've received are entered correctly on the 2021 tax return.
- All third-round Economic Impact Payments have been issued. People may claim any remaining stimulus payment they're entitled to on their 2021 tax return as part of the 2021 Recovery Rebate Credit.
- For more information on the above, please see here.

Thank you for taking the time to read my weekly newsletter. I appreciate your thoughtful feedback and always encourage you to reach out to my office with any questions, comments, or concerns.
Sincerely,
David Schweikert |
