Dear ,
I hope you and your family are doing well! I wanted to provide a few updates on my work this past week for the residents of Arizona’s First Congressional District.
Announcing the Winners of the 2023 Congressional Art Competition
Congratulations to Aila Conner from Veritas Preparatory Academy for winning 1st Place in the 2023 Congressional Art Competition. Her piece, "Me and My Grandfather," will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol this year alongside winners from every other congressional district across the country.
The runner-up award belongs to Sophia Lin from BASIS Scottsdale with her piece, titled "Peace." Sophia's artwork will be displayed in my Washington, D.C. office.
Rounding out the Top 3 was Callie Redman of Chaparral High School with her piece, "Kitty Cat." Callie's artwork will be displayed in my Scottsdale office.
Thank you to all of our talented students for submitting their artwork, and I look forward to showcasing their winning art throughout the next year.
Immediate R&D Expensing Will Increase Productivity, Grow the Size of U.S. Economy
Click here or on the image above to view my remarks.
In my speech on the House Floor last week, I underscored the devastating economic impacts of policies enacted in the last two years when Democrats controlled the House, Senate, and White House. Our nation saw its credit downgraded in 2011 because Congress didn't take its debt obligation seriously. We must demonstrate fiscal responsibility this time around to avoid repeating past mistakes. I also discussed the need to embrace immediate R&D expensing to increase productivity and ultimately grow the size of the economy.

Serving as Vice Chairman of the Joint Economic Committee for the 118th Congress
I am excited and grateful to serve as Vice Chairman of the Joint Economic Committee for the 118th Congress. I look forward to working alongside my colleagues to review, improve, and advise on one of our nation’s most important priorities: the U.S. economy. Advancing policies that increase growth and productivity are absolutely critical to creating jobs and lowering costs for American families.
What I’m Reading & Why It Matters
This week, I'm reading a story in Money on helpful tips if you're unable to pay your taxes by the due date and want to avoid hefty late penalties. The failure to pay penalty is 0.5% of the unpaid tax balance for each month it remains unpaid, up to a maximum of 25%. The IRS offers several payment plans you can set up to pay off your taxes over time. Additionally, if you're unable to make any payments toward your balance due to financial hardship, you may be able to temporarily delay collections by being deemed "not collectible" by the IRS.
Thank you for taking the time to read this update on my latest work in Washington, D.C. and Arizona’s First Congressional District! If you have any comments or concerns, I encourage you to reach out to my office.
Sincerely,
David Schweikert |
