Dear ,
I want to wish you and your family a happy Labor Day! Our nation is built on the hard work and dedication of our American workforce. Today, we celebrate all of our hardworking Americans and the contributions they make to strengthen our communities, particularly in Arizona’s First Congressional District. I hope you’re able to spend time with family and friends today.
Below you will find a few updates on my work this past week for the residents of Arizona’s First Congressional District.
Speaking at the Arizona, Carefree Cave Creek Chambers of Commerce
This week, I spoke at the Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry's Board of Directors meeting to discuss our nation’s absurd level of borrowing and the importance of getting our debt under control to stimulate economic growth and protect businesses in Arizona's First Congressional District. With the federal government borrowing $72,932 every second over the past 12 months, it's past time we started prioritizing our ballooning debt.
I also spoke at the Carefree Cave Creek Chamber of Commerce's monthly morning mixer where I highlighted policies we're working on in Congress to support small businesses across the district.
My Response to the 2023 Joint Economic Committee Report
I wanted to share my response to the Joint Economic Committee's 2023 report, which gives a detailed outlook of my views as Vice Chairman regarding the state of our economy. I encourage you to particularly read Chapter 3 on the social costs of obesity. I would truly appreciate any feedback you have after reading this report.
Military Service Academy Applications Deadline Set For October 6th
The online academy application portal for my office is open to eligible high school students residing in Arizona's First Congressional District who are interested in attending one of our nation's premier military service academies. To learn more about the congressional nomination process and how to submit an application, please review the application form here. I wish prospective students the best of luck and sincerely appreciate their interest in serving our country. The deadline to apply is October 6, 2023.
July 2023 Spending Totals
Want to know how much the federal government spends in one month? We brought the receipts! Total expenses for the month of July were $493 billion, with Social Security, net interest, and defense spending accounting for nearly half of total spending.
REAL ID Deadline Extended to 2025
Attention travelers — there's no need to panic if you haven't gotten your REAL ID-compliant identification card yet!
The Department of Homeland Security has extended the REAL ID full enforcement date to May 7, 2025. Beginning then, every traveler 18 years of age or older will need a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or identification card, state-issued enhanced driver’s license, or another TSA-acceptable form of identification at airport security checkpoints for domestic air travel. To obtain a REAL ID, you'll need to show proof of a certified birth certificate. If you need to get a copy of your birth certificate, click here if you were born in Arizona and here if you were born in another state.
What I’m Reading & Why It Matters
This week, I'm reading this report regarding foreign influence on American social media covert misinformation campaigns from China and Russia targeting the United States — specifically hitting organizations like the Washington Post, NATO, and Fox News. Meta was able to attribute the massive disinformation campaign to individuals associated with Chinese law enforcement.
Thank you for taking the time to read this update on my latest work in Washington, D.C. and Arizona’s First Congressional District! If you have any comments or concerns, I encourage you to reach out to my office.
Sincerely,
David Schweikert |
