I hope you and your family are doing well! I wanted to provide a few updates on my work this past week for the residents of Arizona’s First Congressional District.
Standing With Israel
On Saturday, Israel experienced one of the darkest days in its history when Hamas terrorists infiltrated the country, slaughtering hundreds of innocent civilians including at least 11 American citizens, and taking dozens of hostages. I strongly condemn these unprovoked and barbaric attacks against our strongest ally in the Middle East. The United States must stand firmly with Israel and provide unwavering support as they fight to defend their homeland and seek the safe return of all those who are being held hostage. We can and will do whatever it takes to protect the only democracy in the Middle East.
The Department of State continues to closely monitor the security situation in Israel. The Department has a 24/7 coordinating group communicating with U.S. citizens and providing them assistance through phone calls and an online form. U.S. citizens seeking to be in touch with the U.S. Embassy in Israel can fill out the form (https://cacms.state.gov/s/crisis-intake) or call 1-833-890-9595 or 1-606-641-0131.
Please continue to ask any U.S. citizens in Israel to enroll their contact information in our Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP): https://step.state.gov/step/. My Statement on the Motion to Vacate
Last week, I was disappointed in eight of my Republican colleagues who voted with the Democrats to oust Kevin McCarthy as Speaker. This decision was reckless and wrong. Whatever policy differences that may exist amongst Republicans, the solution should never be to empower the Left. It is my sincere hope that Republicans can come together this week to get behind a new Speaker of the House so that we can continue to move our nation forward.
Dedicating the Fountain Hills Post Office After Dr. C.T. Wright
Last week, I participated in a dedication ceremony of the Fountain Hills Post Office in honor of Dr. C.T. Wright for his devotion to public service and meaningful contributions that left a remarkable impact on countless Arizona communities.
I was joined by Fountain Hills Mayor Ginny Dickey, U.S. Postal Service Arizona/New Mexico District Manager John Morgan, and Dr. Wright's niece, Dr. Olivet James-Robinson, as we reflected on the life and legacy of Dr. Wright.
This dedication is a reward for someone who took on brutal challenges and overcame them. Dr. Wright never let the battles darken his soul. We are all better as individuals and a community because the Wrights chose to spend part of their lives with us. And that's what makes this such a moral, special occasion.
Attending a USCIS Naturalization Ceremony
 
On Friday, I spoke at a USCIS naturalization ceremony at the Sandra Day O'Connor U.S. Courthouse where I congratulated a group of new U.S. citizens as they took their oath of citizenship and embark on their journey in pursuit of the American Dream. It was truly an honor to witness such a special event that each of them will remember for the rest of their lives. Congratulations on becoming American citizens!
What I’m Reading & Why It Matters
This week, I wanted to share this opinion piece in the Wall Street Journal reviewing Melissa Kearney's new book, which I just purchased, the “The Two-Parent Privilege,” which attempts to explain the importance of marriage to her fellow liberal intellectuals. Kearney discussed her concerns that she would be labeled as a social conservative for publishing her findings on the need to “restore and foster a norm of two-parent homes for children.”
