Dear ,

From my family to yours, we hope you've had a safe week beating the summer heat. Below, please find a few updates on my work last week for the residents of Arizona’s First Congressional District.

Legislation That Allows Multi-Cancer Early Detection (MCED) Screenings to be Covered by Medicare

Click here or on the image above to hear why I cosponsored the Medicare Multi-Cancer Early Detection Screening Coverage Act

I have long remained a champion for supporting efforts in Congress which help make life more livable for our brothers and sisters who are battling cancer. In 2019, I cosponsored bipartisan legislation that allowed Medicare to cover wigs for patients, and in 2020, I helped introduce the bipartisan GENE Therapy Payment Act, which allows for Medicaid beneficiaries to receive innovative treatments.

Last month, another cosponsor effort called the Medicare Multi-Cancer Early Detection Screening Coverage Act passed through the House Ways and Means Committee with unanimous support. The University of Chicago found at least $6.5 trillion in savings from expanding early screening for cancer patients. This legislation speaks to my continuing efforts of utilizing technology to disrupt costs, and more importantly, finding moral solutions to saving our brothers and sisters.

How the Administration Is Distorting Border Figures

Image

You may have noticed that encounters at the Southern Border have been shrinking in size per official reports after reaching record numbers early this fiscal year. As you'll recall, Biden announced additional asylum restrictions at the beginning of June, appearing to restrict access to America for migrants.  What if I told you that bad actors– like human smugglers and traffickers– have exploited a legal loophole within these failed Biden-Harris Administration policies? Let's start by laying out the groundwork:

Currently, according to the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA), migrants encountered at the border are to be promptly returned to their country of origin through a process called expedited removalIn an outline released from the America First Policy Institute, a flaw was highlighted in the Administration's asylum adjustment that migrants claim to avoid the expedited removal process: It's called a “credible fear” screening, which is step one in the asylum process for migrants apprehended at the border. An alarming 81% of migrants who claim “credible fear” meet this already low standard.

What I’m Reading & Why It Matters

Image

The world’s first offshore carbon-capture-and-storage project sits 200 kilometers off Norway’s coast in the North Sea. This project works by instead burying CO2 as opposed to releasing greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere. This stores approximately 1 million metric tons of CO2 per year. Scientists estimate that we have around six years until global warming consistently exceeds 1.5 degrees Celsius above average preindustrial temperatures. Although phasing out fossil fuels is key to fighting climate change, carbon capture technologies will help to cut CO2 emissions in half by 2030 and reach net-zero emissions by 2050.

I often cite information from Brian Reidl, a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute, to help display how our debt is crisis is out of control. He starts by explaining how in just one year, our national debt doubled from $1 trillion to $2 trillion. President Biden has "promised" to protect critical government programs, like Social Security and Medicare, along with claiming to veto bipartisan broad-based tax systems. Neither Republicans nor Democrats are fond of getting rid of such programs, and both essentially support the president's stance against new taxes for 95 percent of American families. If the federal debt continues to be refinanced at the 4.5 percent interest rate observed in recent Treasury auctions, the budget deficit could exceed $4 trillion within the next ten years.

Schweikert Suggests...

This week, I'm highlighting a question from Ms. Zenaida F. from Scottsdale. She asks...
"WHO is receiving this vast number of debt INTEREST every single month?
WHO is America borrowing from that is holding this debt and receiving these interest payments from?"
  1. 22% of national debt is owed to the government itself, so a portion of interest will be essentially the government paying its own interest. Outside of private U.S. citizens and corporations, foreign governments and corporations own a certain percentage of the rest.
  2. The majority of the money is borrowed from Social Security, the Federal Reserve, and other U.S. banks and investors. Japan and China are the largest foreign nations that America borrows from, with Japan owning $1.1 trillion and China owning $859 billion of the U.S. National Debt (totaling about 3% and 2% of the debt respectively).
Do you have any general questions that I can help answer? Schweikert Suggests reaching out to my offices at (202) 225-2190 or (480) 946-2411.

Thank you for taking the time to read this update on my latest work in Washington, D.C. and Arizona’s First Congressional District! If you have any comments or concerns, I encourage you to reach out to my office.

Sincerely,
