Dear ,

I hope you and your family are doing well! Below, please find a few updates on my work last week for the residents of Arizona’s First Congressional District.

Thank You for Being YOU

I wanted to start this November off with a moment of gratitude.

Too often, life passes us by without us even recognizing the significance of each day; our kids are growing up, our friends are growing old-- maybe you even have the privilege of being a parent or a grandparent now. All of that to say, I want to take this month to stop and appreciate this life and the people in it. And there have been so many of you that have brought joy and laughter and brilliance into not just my life, but so many communities that you're a part of.

This November, I want us to lean into the gift of gratitude, to give more words of encouragement, to sprinkle more small acts of kindness, and most of all, embrace the present and all the meaning it brings. Thank you for being you, and thank you for this light you bring to life.

Recognizing Some Amazing Citizens of AZ-01

Last week, my staff were fortunate enough to attend the ribbon cutting for the new 55 Resort Scottsdale, located in McCormick Ranch. The facility boasts an array of recreational activities to ensure an enjoyable and fulfilling pre- and post-retirement experience. The goal is leisure, luxury, and a sense of community. It’s about enjoying the freedom to pursue interests, stay active, and make the most of retirement in a beautiful and supportive community.

The entire 55 Resort team curated a wonderful ribbon cutting ceremony, including live music, food crafted by their chefs, and tours of their amenities and facilities. We are excited to celebrate this addition to the Scottsdale community, and looking forward to see how they will accommodate Arizonans.

I Hope You All Had a Happy Halloween!

The Halloween holiday time of year is such a refreshing season. The weather cools down, the sunsets become more vivid, and it truly sparks the magic of the sliver of fall here we have in Arizona. This year, I got to spend Halloween surrounded by my family and friends. Matthew reassured us all that his costume was, in fact, NOT a dragon, but a scary dinosaur. It's safe to say I didn't make that mistake again... Joyce and I hope you had a happy Halloween, and a safe night without too many frights!

Better, Faster, Cheaper: How Innovation is Expanding Optimism for the Future

Image

Many of you know my fascination with innovation and the further implementation of technology into different facets of many industries. The up-and-coming innovation is extensive, and luckily, there are thousands of scholarly studies and research pieces being released daily that expand on progress of these projects. Not enough members of Congress take the time to capitalize on how these innovative advancements actually promote the health and well-being of our society. This segment dives deeper into technological implementations that are actively making life better and cheaper for our brothers and sisters.

FDA approves nasal spray as first injection-free treatment for severe allergic reactions

The FDA has approved a new nasal spray that will help treat allergic reactions and could help one in three adults and one in four children suffering from seasonal or food allergies. Neffy is a single dose nasal spray that works by the administration of epinephrine– the only life-saving treatment for anaphylaxis, into one nostril. With a nasal spray, the fear of Anaphylaxis fear is eliminated.

New smart insulin that responds to changing blood sugar levels in real-time

Scientists are ready to introduce a type of smart insulin, which works by mimicking bodily changes in blood sugar levels and reducing the number of times a person needs to treat themselves. Normal insulin will stabilize blood sugar levels but will not be able to stop any addition spikes, resulting in patients taking several injections each day. Experts believe smart insulin will only require administration once per week.

Stem cell therapy used to reverse type 1 diabetes – it offers hope of a potential cure

A groundbreaking study has shown that stem cell therapy can reverse type-1 diabetes in a patient by using modified cells that produce insulin, marking a potential "cure" for a disease previously managed only through daily insulin injections. The researchers successfully modified the patient's cells in the lab and re-implanted them, resulting in the patient autonomously producing insulin after two-and-a-half months.

Schweikert Suggests...

This week, I am highlighting an important question from Victoria N. in Mesa. She asks...
"What initiatives are in place to support job creation and economic development in our district?"
Our office can provide information on federal programs, grants, and partnerships aimed at stimulating economic growth and creating job opportunities locally.

Finding the right grants for your small business involves:

  • Government Websites: Websites like grants.gov and the Arizona Commerce Authority list available grants.
  • Local Chambers of Commerce: These organizations often have information on local grant opportunities.
  • Industry Associations: These can be excellent resources for industry-specific grants.
Schweikert Suggests browsing the website for Arizona's Office of Economic Opportunity to stay up to date with how your state is supporting you and your business.
Do you have any general questions that I can help answer? Do not hesitate to reach out to my offices at (202) 225-2190 or (480) 946-2411.

Thank you for taking the time to read this update on my latest work in Washington, D.C. and Arizona’s First Congressional District! If you have any comments or concerns, I encourage you to reach out to my office.

Sincerely,
