Dear ,

"The Reality is, Our Federal Government is an Insurance Company With an Army"

During my last floor speech, I shared the hard truth about our federal government: It is an insurance company with an army, and it does not have the money to make good on its promises.

Overspending and borrowing are jeopardizing America’s economic future. Over the past 12 months, the we've spent $945.1 billion just on interest payments for the national debt. Unless we get honest about the structural drivers, we’re going to hand our kids a poorer, more fragile country. The problem is, no one is offering solutions that actually move us toward fiscal responsibility.

I laid out what I've proposed as steps in the right direction. We need to modernize and realign incentives within Medicare Advantage, adopt a talent-based immigration system to grow the workforce, and reclaim $1.5 trillion in federal funds that we pay interest on. This is how we get back on track, through legislating actual change, not corporate or party hand-ringing.

Making Americans healthier is a key part of fixing our debt and labor crises.

The Social Security Trustees Report tells us a scary truth.

There are $1.5 trillion in forgotten funds, why can't we capture these funds?

Important Information for Those Who Missed the April Tax Deadline

Image

The IRS has highlighted several resources to help taxpayers who missed the April 2025 federal income tax return filing deadline and owe taxes interest and penalties.

"Taxpayers who owe taxes should file their tax return and pay as soon as they can. Interest and penalties will continue to accrue on the owed taxes until the balance is paid in full. Even if a taxpayer cannot afford to immediately pay the full amount of taxes owed, they should still file a tax return and pay as much as possible."

Recognizing Some Amazing Citizens of AZ-01

Image

It was a pleasure to meet with Lewis Esterly and his family last week. Lewis is one of 17 outstanding students from our district appointed to a U.S. service academy this year. Later this summer, he will report to West Point, where he will begin his journey toward becoming a leader in our nation’s military.

I often say it, but it bears repeating: meeting the young men and women who represent the future of our country is one of the greatest privileges of this job. That feeling is even more meaningful when so many of them come from our own community.

To Lewis, thank you for your commitment to serve. We’re proud of you and wish you the very best in the years ahead.

What I'm Reading And Why It Matters

New test can diagnose Valley fever within minutes, leading to faster treatment

Researchers at Arizona State University and the Mayo Clinic have developed a rapid Valley Fever test that delivers results in just 10 minutes. A standard blood test typically takes 23 days. Valley Fever often mimics flu-like symptoms and goes misdiagnosed, delaying treatment and sometimes causing severe complications. The test is set for potential FDA clearance and clinical use by year’s end and would allow doctors to diagnose and treat patients during the same visit. This breakthrough means a reduction in unnecessary antibiotic use, accelerated care, and improved patient outcomes.

H-1B Middlemen Bring Cheap Labor to Citi, Capital One

Researchers have found that H-1B visa sponsorship has shifted significantly. Banks, telecoms, and retail firms are increasingly relying on staffing companies to hire H-1B workers. These staffing firms, acting as intermediaries, often place workers in lower-skilled roles at significantly lower wages than direct hires. This shift undermines the original intent of the H-1B program, to bring in highly skilled talent. The exploitation of the program raises concerns about wage suppression and labor market distortion.

G-7 Countries Agree to ‘Side by Side’ Tax Deal for US Companies

The G7 countries have agreed to a new global tax deal. The "side-by-side" tax framework protects American taxpayers by making sure foreign countries can’t dictate U.S. tax policy or siphon off U.S. tax revenue. Allowing U.S. tax laws to coexist with the international framework preserves the gains made against tax avoidance while giving U.S. businesses more stability to grow and invest. By rejecting extraterritorial and discriminatory foreign taxes, the deal protects U.S. jobs, supports American companies, and strengthens our economic independence.
