Dear ,

As devastating floods continue to impact communities across Texas, my thoughts are with those affected, especially the families mourning lost loved ones. I'm deeply grateful to the first responders and frontline workers risking everything to rescue the missing and protect their neighbors.

Safeguarding Tax Relief for Families and Small Businesses

H.R. 1 is a flawed piece of legislation that was, nonetheless, necessary to protect the American taxpayers from a massive tax increase.

As one of the leading voices in the House of Representatives for finding real solutions to fix our nation’s debt crisis, it goes without saying that I am disturbed by the  increase in the national debt this legislation is projected to bring.

But at the same time, I could not vote to allow the expiration of the 2017 tax cuts which would have done grave damage to American families and the American economy.

With H.R. 1 out of the way, Congress will now be taking up a second reconciliation bill. It is imperative that this bill be used to pass into law policies that reduce the projected growth of federal spending and pay for the costs of H.R. 1. Failure to accomplish these goals in the next reconciliation bill will do grave damage to the American economy and our future prosperity.

Tips for Summer Travels, and a New TSA Initiative

Image

As summer travel peaks, I wanted to share some tips to ensure smooth airport experiences for Arizonans.

  • Pack smart: Start with an empty bag, follow the 3-1-1 liquid rule, and use TSA's "What Can I Bring?" page to check what items are and aren't allowed.
  • Arrive early: to account for parking, terminal navigation and security, it's recommended that you arrive 2 hours before domestic flights and 3 hours before international.
  • Bring acceptable identification: Make sure that you have a REAL ID-compliant ID or another form of acceptable identification. If you do not a REAL ID, learn how to start the process HERE.
  • Enroll in TSA PreCheck: PreCheck allows low-risk travelers to bypass certain aspects of the TSA process, and can be up to 20 minutes quicker than standard screening lines.

I also want to spotlight TSA's "Serve with Honor, Travel with Ease" initiative. The program introduces three major benefits for the U.S. military community:

  1. Gold Star families, those who have lost a loved one in military service, receive TSA PreCheck for free.
  2. A $25 discount on TSA PreCheck for military spouses.
  3. The addition of expedited TSA screening lanes for service members.

Passport Renewal

If your summer travel plans include going international, remember to check your passport. If it's time to renew your passport, here is some information on how:

  • If your passport is undamaged, issued in the last 15 years, received after age 16, and has your current name, you can renew it by mail.
  • If you need the process expedited, the fee is $60 and can take as little as two weeks

Hearing from our constituents is one of our top priorities, and our district office plays a vital role in serving your needs.

Last Tuesday, a major power outage temporarily disrupted our phone lines. Thanks to the swift response from the team at CenturyLink, service was quickly restored, and we were able to resume taking calls and assisting with casework.

We’re incredibly grateful for their fast action and commitment to helping us stay connected to the community.

Better, Faster, Cheaper: How Innovation is Expanding Optimism for the Future

Image

Many of you know my fascination with innovation and the further implementation of technology into different facets of countless industries. Up-and-coming innovation is extensive, and luckily, there are thousands of scholarly studies and research pieces being released daily that expand on progress of these projects. Not enough members of Congress take the time to capitalize on how these innovative advancements actually promote the health and well-being of our society. This segment dives deeper into technological implementations that are actively making life better and cheaper for our brothers and sisters.

Google’s AI drug company says human trials are ‘very close’

Isomorphic Labs, a drug discovery company launched by Google’s DeepMind, is preparing to begin human clinical trials for its first AI-designed treatments. The company uses a powerful system that can predict protein structures and simulate how they interact with drugs, dramatically accelerating the early stages of drug development. This is a major step in the use of AI in drug manufacturing, and AI in healthcare generally.

Can AI build a virtual cell? Scientists race to model life’s smallest unit

Multiple research teams are racing to develop a virtual cell. These researchers are using vast single-cell sequencing datasets, and equip the AI models for biological simulation. The goal is to develop a general-purpose virtual cell engine that is capable of predicting cellular responses to drugs, generic changes, and environmental conditions. A breakthrough like this means faster and cheaper drug production, and new diagnostic tools.

I want to provide you with some critical insights from the Joint Economic Committee's May 2025 Trade Update and June 2025 Employment Update.

In May, the U.S. trade deficit was $71.5 billion, rising $11.3 billion (+18.7%) from April. The monthly total trade deficit is the result of a $97.5 billion goods trade deficit and a $26.0 billion service trade surplus.

Over the past 12 months, the U.S. trade deficit was $1.08 trillion, the result of a $1.39 trillion goods trade deficit and a $309 billion services trade surplus. The top trading partners tell the story:
  • Largest trade deficits: China ($293 billion), Mexico ($183 billion), and Vietnam ($142 billion).
  • Largest trade surpluses: Netherlands ($55 billion), Hong Kong ($26 billion), and the United Kingdom ($20 billion).
Import duties surged to $24.2 billion in May, up 149% over the 12-month average. So far in 2025, the federal government has collected $116.6 billion.

In June, employment increased by 147,000
and the unemployment rate decreasing to 4.1%. The job growth was split between private (+74,000) and government (+73,000). Notably, federal employment decreased by 7,000 and was offset by gains in state and local governments.
