Dear ,

Targeting International Cybercrime Rings

Image

Cybercrime is no longer just petty theft. Americans lost $16 billion to cybercriminals in 2024, with nearly $5 billion stolen from seniors alone. These are not isolated scams. They are part of international criminal syndicates, often backed by foreign governments like North Korea or Myanmar.

Many of these groups operate scam farms where trafficked victims are enslaved and forced to carry out online fraud. These operations target Americans through fake utility portals, impersonated government sites, and ransomware.

To fight back, I introduced the Cybercrime Marque and Reprisal Authorization Act of 2025. This bill would empower the federal government to authorize white hat hackers to disrupt cybercriminal organizations and help recover stolen funds.

This legislation is about restoring justice, protecting American families, and confronting modern piracy with modern tools.

Better, Faster, Cheaper

Generative AI Helps Discover Novel Antibiotics

I just read about a major breakthrough at MIT where generative AI was used to design entirely new antibiotic compounds from scratch. The research team created and screened more than 36 million theoretical molecules, ultimately producing one that cleared MRSA and gonorrhea infections in mice. This is not a small adjustment to existing drugs. It is the invention of brand-new treatments. That matters because antibiotic resistance is a growing global crisis, and having AI tools that can rapidly discover effective options could save countless lives

AI Collaboration Paves the Way for Cheaper Research

A new partnership between the National Science Foundation and NVIDIA that will reshape U.S. research through artificial intelligence. They are investing $152 million to support the Allen Institute for AI in creating open multimodal models. These tools can be studied, modified, and used freely by researchers. The models will help analyze scientific papers, images, and data, while also generating code and visualizations. This effort matters because it reduces costs and expands access to advanced AI for universities and labs. If we want to remain at the forefront of global innovation, providing open tools that speed up discovery is essential.
